Are we forgetting about Mr. Jackson in 2022

I'm still lukewarm on TJ. He has the size and has a nice arm. He isn't a guy likely to be an effective running QB in college. He doesn't have elite passing stats. I'm not down on him. I fully trust Heupel to know what he wants in a QB prospect. But I'm kind of wait and see on him. I hope he's great... but hope that UT recruits QB's well enough to recruit over him if he's not.

LOL, what makes you say that? He seems pretty quick and elusive in his highlihts. He isn't Dobbs, but few are.

Well partly because he hasn't been a significant part of his HS's running attack.

He has a couple of highlights but he's pretty clearly not a running QB. Not claiming that he doesn't have good enough mobility.... just that he's not only not a Dobbs... he isn't likely a Hooker either.

You come to UT, you have to know there's going to be competition. With the portal, QBs are going to come and go. UT just can't go into next season with Milton and Jackson behind Hooker. You need plenty of competition in the QB room. The best stay and the others move on. No coach worth his salt would avoid brining in someone to try and win the job for fear of ruffling Jacksons feathers. If the kid is that fragile, he's not the guy you can count on when the bullets fly in this league. It's about winning the job not "it's my turn now".
i do think that players that come to Tennessee, have fun on campus. They’re having fun with this coaching staff and coach. The competition has been there this year, and I think it has been fierce. No, I think you may have to ruffle some feathers if other quarterbacks come from the portal for competition. I’m hoping that Jackson isn’t soft. I don’t think he will be at all.

I don’t know how the rest of VN feels, but, given a full year under JH and Co and Joe Milton may prove to be much better QB than many expect or believe possible…….. Joe Milton is not JG!
I haven’t completely written off Milton, like many scared Vol fans:)
I’m am very concerned if HH leaves, however!
Go Vols
Go JH & Co………. This was the most fun Tennessee team to watch on offense, that I’ve seen in a decade and a half!
It was actually fun to watch a 1st year coach bring the Vols to life……( with leftovers)
I wish he could improve with his mechanics, but I don’t think he can improve his decision making. We may have won only three games this year if not for Hooker.

I trust Heupel knows more about QBs that you. If not, you’re grossly underpaid

I agree, but I just didn’t want us to forget about him, and get the impression that we could go get other quarterbacks. I think we need to be careful how they handle Jackson, but I think everything will be alright at the end. Yea, he needs some time.
We need depth. Period, nobody is forgetting Jackson but to have Milton as number 2 is borderline irresponsible.

What did I just say in the post you quoted? I don't claim to have the information or expertise he has. Jackson's highlights just aren't that impressive compared to many that we've seen. Doesn't mean he's not great. Maybe he is.

He’s not ready to be an SEC QB next fall. He needs a redshirt

We just don’t know. Freshman have came in and started on a lot of teams. If he’s good enough, play him. This fanbase is good about overusing the “redshirt” term. A freshman doesn’t automatically warrant a redshirt.

Its a difficult situation if Milton doesn’t transfer, because of vol fans doesn’t want Milton to play. So, if Hooker gets hurt, Milton will be your backup, and will come into the game. He may even start some games. My question is, that Tayven can only play four games, if he is going to redshirt. Do you want Jackson to play and get rep time in blow out games, and not redshirt, or just let Milton be the back up? The only other way would be, if a transfer comes in.

You don't know. It depends on which armchair coaching league he's in. He could be bringing in the big paper. I mean, I doubt it, but you never know......;)

Didn’t stop Crompton and Ainge from turning into productive QBs here, and they both were horrid at points in their careers

No, it didn’t. I think Hype will be just fine teaching quarterbacks, and I believe they can take off.
