Even Ohio State lost to a bad team by 3 points. However, you're not supposed to get blown out by bad teams if you're any good. The 2022 team got blown out by a bad team. That eliminates them in any conversation.
That same South Carolina squad went on the road and beat Clemson the next week. They beat 2 NY6 teams back to back. They had some bad losses, but they put it together for at least a couple of weeks. The how and the why seems to still be a question mark regarding that loss.

2022 team was blown out by a mediocre South Carolina team. The 2024 team was blown out by the eventual national champs in the playoffs.

2024 was better. We didn't face plant last year the way we did in 2022.

I usually value your posts but this year’s loss to Arkansas has ended up feeling worse than the ‘22 USCe loss.

We are better defensively. We put more points on the board in '22 and had a better deep threat capability than we do now. We did put a stomp on Clemson in the Bowl Game also. Two very good teams.

They put it together because they benefited from receiving our signals from Michigan.

I would have loved to see us play South Carolina this year. I think a lot of folks think we'd walk them but I am not buying that at all. Their coach is a dweeb and a douche but that has nothing to do with his team. They are certainly a 2nd tier contender in this league.

2022 beats 2024 by 17+. 2022 would have been a terrible matchup for 2024.
I don’t know. Maybe, but our defense was so bad last year, our offense could probably score a lot. I don’t remember a crazy amount y of big plays our 2022 defense let up which is what we were bad at this year. I think Sampson would destroy our 2022 defense like Gibbs did. I do think 2022 would still win, but I don’t know because we lost to a Georgia team in 2022 that was kind of like this team

That Georgia team with a bunch of guys who just started for a Super Bowl winner and won the national championship by like 60 points was nothing like this team. They were much better than 2024 Tennessee.

There is no power 5 defense that the 2024 offense would score “a lot” on.

Ik but our team was like them. Both had good defenses with a qb that did not play well but the won games. They were much better than us. We scored 51 on nc state. They are power 4

Are you talking about Stetson Bennett? I wouldn’t way he “did not play well”. Was the MVP of CFP semifinal and Championship as well as a Heisman finalist. If that’s not playing well the bar is set pretty high😂

Sorry, I messed up my wording. He did play very well in the playoffs, but I thought he was more of a system QB in the regular season. Nico did not play very well but did not play poorly. Stetson Bennet played well but was not insane throughout the season besides the game against OSU and maybe TCU but they got blown out by 58, so I don't know if that was him dominating them or just them being completely outmatched. I also might have a little bias for him snubbing Hendon Hooker for a Heisman finalist in 2022.

Stetson Bennett was a Heisman finalist. The idea that he didn’t play well is just false. He threw for over 4000 yards and accounted for nearly 40 touchdowns. I’ll grant you the NC State game, but this team was not in the stratosphere of the 2022 Georgia team.

true. I just thought we were similar in the way we won games. I will admit that Stetson Bennet was good, but I don't think he was a total game changer like I thought Bryce Young, Cj Stroud, Caleb Williams, and Hendon Hooker were that season.

Hindsight being 20/20, I think the 22 team and last seasons teams were polar opposites. 22 had a monster offense, led by a QB who could execute it perfectly and a much better Offensive Line. 24 defense was the absolute strength of the team and kept us in games and sometimes won us the game while the offense was prone to mistakes and bad execution at times.

I think ‘22 was a more exciting team to watch because of a decade plus of being dysfunctional garbage on the field. It was nice to feel like we belonged in the SEC and National Championship conversation again after so long. ‘24 team had high expectations and had moments of greatness and moments of disappointment but still had a hell of a year that I can’t be mad about.

It’s a tough distinction to make. But very on brand for Tennessee football to never have both units at their best at the same time.
