Are There Any Butch Supporters Left?

We have two choices: accept Ron Zook (I mean Butch Jones), or cut bait. He's gone after next year. I was about to order tickets to Arky & SC, but after yesterday I'm saving my money. I'll watch the games from home.

This. I went back over the past two seasons and tallied what I spent on UT Football. It's about $1500 per year. Not much by some standards, but that's a nice increase in my disposable income until we get a coaching staff that knows how to play to win.

Go Vols.

We are 102nd in the nation through yesterday in passing offense. This, with an absolutely loaded WR corps and a mobile QB against mediocre-to-bad teams.

Passing Offense | FBS Football Statistics - NCAA.com

That is coaching, folks.

A mobile qb that is struggling badly with accuracy, and a coach that is trying to scheme around his qb's inability to throw the ball. They're gonna have to let Dobbs throw, if he proves he can't bring in Dormady. You don't win football games in the sec when your starting qb throws for 83 yards.

Yeah, I support Butch. He's still our coach. Until he's fired I'll still support him. He'll get one more year and if he (and assistants) continue to coach like this they'll all be gone.

P.S. I was at the game...believe me, I understand the frustration.

GO VOLS!

His arse should still be standing on the runway in Gainesville along with the rest of the staff...

Don't need a coach who is an "up-and-comer" or who has "just arrived", or even a "solid" coordinator.

The university should demand a "proven" on-the-field winner (i.e., > 1 championship) from a P5 conference or NFL head coach. I have no doubt that that person would then gut this entire ragtag gang who've been deemed the so called "BEST STAFF IN AMERICA!"

I support Butch, but with that said, but those players need Butch to step up and lead them to victory. They don't need him try to sit on a lead because he is afraid of his team making some mistakes. He got the lead by taking some chances.
4 plays that determined the outcome of the game:
1. Dobbs fumble. Not Butch's fault.
2. Not going for 2.
3. Running the ball of 3rd and eight instead of passing it for the 1st down to maintain possession and run the clock out on our next to last drive.
4. Running a prevent D on 4th and 14 instead of bringing pressure.

One thing is for sure. In order for Butch to take the next step with this program, this coaching staff is going to have to play to win for 4 qtrs. if he truly trust these players he will trust them to execute the plays the down and distance calls for. You don't win championships by sitting on your hands. If he would have just been successful on 1 out 4 of the above mentioned plays, UT at least ties that game in regulation. If he was successful on 2 out 4 of them UT wins that game.

And that's not even counting these 2 mistakes in the last 1 minute:
1. Having Dobbs hold the ball so long waiting on Snaps in the 1 minute drill running off valuable seconds and causing a false start penalty.
2. Not calling a timeout with 10 seconds left and costing us 5 yards on a substitution penalty and adding 5 yards on the field goal attempt.

Both of those things cost us 10 yards on the FG, and at least 20 seconds on the play clock.

Butch has recruited players who are better than his coaches. It's time for this coaching staff to evaluate their in game performance.

Still amazing to hear from "fans" who evidently know very little about football. You know the ones; a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Sorry, but getting beat by 30+ points isn't the same as losing in the final seconds. One team is at a talent level capable of winning championships and the other is lucky if they get to go to a bowl game. Four games into a season isn't enough time to know where everyone is at. What if 9 weeks from now, Oklahoma is 12-1 and going to the playoff? What if Florida wins the east? What if the Vols end up 9-4 after a bowl win? Isn't this what most thought a couple of months ago? Yes, I want wins to come just like the next fan. But, before you have lots of wins, you need the talent and this coach you are so quick to want to get rid of is one class away. Next, you need "senior" leadership. I know, no one wants to hear this either, but it's true none the less. Have you missed any players from the last three years? There is a reason. Finally, the final thing you need is great on field coaching. I'm not going to judge this coaching staff to the level I would Saban and Meyer until next year, when they have the other two ingredients. So, if you really want Tennessee football to start winning championships soon, shut up and do your day job a little better. News flash: You're not a football coach or an AD.

Beating Kentucky, vandy, and sc doesn't count. Who have we beaten. Nobody!

Kentucky is pretty good this year. It will be a tough game in Lexington this year for the Vols. Only problem I have with Butch and the Florida game is, on the last TD he went for the extra point instead of trying for two. I don't get that one. You people are blaming Butch you ought to blame this defense for the Florida loss. You got to make a play to win a game and we are not doing that. Florida was 5 for 5 on 4th down attempts. That's just bad defense.

I'm as frustrated as anybody, but I still think getting rid of Butch would be a huge mistake. I believe he should at least get a fourth year. This constant 3 and out mentality of the fan base will put us deep in the whole as much as any coach will.

He is our coach. He has my support, not always in agreement with his decisions, or that of his staff. I see the same things everyone else sees. Fact is we are better now than last year, and this season isn't over yet. I don't know if we will win another game, but I still hope. I am more mad today at some of the ignorant fans we have. Not those that are just disappointed and question the coaching, we've all done that at some point, but those that are spewing the hate and even telling players "you should've went to Bama..." You are idiots, and I say to you, you should've been a Bama fan. As disappointed as I am in losing, I would never tell one of our players that they should have gone somewhere else. You think that helps that player? You think that helps our team, or recruits that see that crap? BTW, if you think no one would say that to a player go read TKjr Twitter, it's there. I'm sick of losing, but more sick of how some of our fans react to losing. Some of you need to grow up, get a life, and get some perspective.

This is a good description of how I feel. I was upset yesterday and am a bit today, but I'm more irritated and ashamed of the fans than I am the actual game or Jones.

As long as CBJ is coach I will support him and the team, that's what fans should do.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. We didn't bail on WWII after bloody attacks over Ploesti Poland, after taking thousands of losses at Dormandy or North Africa pre-Patton.

Quit acting like sissy arse Frenchmen and stand behind your team!

You can't be "one class away" three years in a row. In the history of sports, I've never seen a coach choke harder than BJ.

In all fairness with the injuries, how many Seniors are starting?

On offense, I count one Kerbyson with Jackson lost for season.
On defense, I count McNeil, Randolph, Owen Williams, Maggitt (lost for season).
On Special Teams: a long snapper Senior

Non-Seniors starters lost: Gaulden,

I think we will make less mistakes as we get more experience.

Spot on. The negativity of this fan base is beyond belief. I am not surprised though. We live in an instant gratification society.

Could the coaching staff have done things better? Of course. However, I still believe, overall, this team is heading in the right direction. We were a dumpster fire a couple of short years ago. At least we have reached the point of being competitive. Losing the way we lost the Oklahoma and Florida hurts worse, yes, but at least we were in a position to lose that way.

Constant 3 and out? We've done that like one time in our history. And the same folks saying this are the ones who say Dooley left Butch a dumpster fire. If he did, then wasn't Dooley's 3 and out warranted?

These last few post on her are awesome. Yes the loses hurt specially when we had them in our grasp. But CBJ has put the wheels in motion for greatness and I'm as eager as anyone else is to be on top right now! Bit I also understand the process. This isn't little league just cause you get a couple of the best players don't mean your going to go out and dominant all... some on here that think they are All American Coaches and know more than anyone else need to slow there roll things will get better as they have year after year that CBJ has been our leader. If you don't want to support our coaching staff and players then leave and go root some other team but don't come back when we win.

The battle sheep are amazing.

Butch is done. You just don't see it because you're too delusional.

Bama crushes this staff again. Georgia wins again. They will lose to Arkansas, Mizzou, and maybe Kentucky by the time it's all said and done.

Any team that isn't blatantly out manned will beat this staff.

Butch will fold again.

Truth is, many of our fans thought this was going to be a walkover this year, many of us underestimated the Gators on paper. But the professionals in Vegas who with an unbiased eye at least on Friday had the game pegged perfectly with the Vols being a 1 point underdog, I know as I lost a few shekels. To me being a fan means being there good and bad. Our kids played their hearts out and they have my total support as I saw no lack of effort. This staff has my total support the rest of this season. For me this staff has a must win game on their calendar next year and it's UF at Neyland, just cold hard unbiased get it done or get it gone. No talk, no BS, no tears, you either do it or you don't and we go from there.

I have swam through the lava of the VN meltdown and so far I have seen one person still supporting Butch. Just wondering if there are others.

I am a reluctant supporter, Doyle.

Notice the one + post about Butch above has 3 times the likes of all the negative ones. This means the majority are not ready to toss what's being built in the trash yet. They are just too ashamed to be named with this 0-2 mess. (Unlike me) :jpshakehead:

I support him and the staff b/c the talent improvement is obvious. The fact that in our only 2 games this season the staff have coached terrible endings (among others) has put me in the reluctant category.

That "afraid to win" offensive game plans at OU, and UF 13', 14', & 15' have bewildered me though, and given me serious pause to the capability of this staff to win championships. But, I'm giving support till the end of the season, barring a collapse (Lose to UK, NT, or VU).

Trying to keep my extreme frustration in perspective here. But even if we end 8-4, I believe we accomplished this season in the acceptable category. At least the bottom end of acceptable.

But when you are 0-2 on the season, winning 3 of the 5 real remaining games is unlikely. Assuming a sweep of the 3 "clear wins" too.

Looked like @ 40 of that in the last minute.
