Are There Any Butch Supporters Left?

I'm in Birmingham with the family, I explained to everybody Friday night why Butch was not
the man, and why I no longer supported him. They all laughed at me and poked fun at me right into
the 4th quarter, then it was my turn, as painful as it was. Now I've got 3 more converts, but I aint
happy about being right for the first time in my life. Well I was right about Fulmer too, but I'm not
counting that.

I'm depressed, conflicted, tortured, and agonized. For the sake of my mental health, I'm gonna visit the Auburn board where I can observe this same discussion in an emotionally detached manner.

It's just so emotionally draining.....I wanna support him and I love the kids....but **** they make it hard to continue to base my Saturdays around this **** show.....same thing every week...I just want us to win and have a decent program...can't believe that beating south Carolina has been our biggest win in the past 8 years...I ****ing love my team, our team, but I just don't know where to go....be mad and say **** the rest of the games...or continue to be upset after losing games that even my wife knows we gone lose, every big game....she has NEVER seen us beat fla, bama, or ga....never wanted to admit we were really the basement team of the SEC but it seems to be apparent...we just stink and don't know how to win...threw my dogs jersey away after the game and took my tennesee flag down off the front porch...it's hard enough for a Vol in Florida but I'm at my wits end...tired of waiting to win...

I support the program.

He has made some bad moves. That said, we are a couple of field goals or 4th down stops from all being crazy happy.

I am done.......... I support the team ... but not this coaching staff. They are mostly Yankees and they have no idea what SEC Football is about. Hate to say it but Good Bye Butch and Staff........

Bad play calling, clock mismanagement, and not being able to protect a fourth quarter lead are all understandable reasons to doubt this staff's abilities. Doubting them because they are "Yankees" is just redneck stupid.

Watching the AR game last night, Vols defense will have their hands full. If they don't go to zone, they are going to hang 30 on us easy and maybe more. 100% man to man -- what were they thinking? All you do is pick on the weakest link and get 4th down conversions. Collins is going to get his yards. A shootout is our only chance to win, so we're going to have to come up with a passing game in a week.

I am. Go cheer for auburn, arkansas, or candy if you are not behind Tennessee.

Here's the disconnect and some rednecks are to dense to see the difference; people are behind TN, they're not behind CBJ and Co. There's a major difference. People care so much for UT they're not blinded by a love affair for a coach.

I pegged 2016 as the year we would turn the corner. I have not changed my mind yet. I came into this season expecting 7-5 or 8-4. Still feel that way.

i have to agree, i never got my hopes up past 7 wins. if we win 8, great, but im not expecting that. it does make you question butch's coaching ability after dropping 2 games both being, at least, 2 possession games after the middle point of the 4th quarter. it also says a lot when the offense is regressing, after hiring and commenting that MD is a "perfect fit", and "nothing will change". i have my doubts now. maybe this is the new normal folks, gotta accept it or you'll die.

Yes i support Butch 100% u take the 2 4th downs plays against OU and UF and make those 2 stops we would be 4-0 and our fan base would be in love with our coach right now. VFL

We are 102nd in the nation through yesterday in passing offense. This, with an absolutely loaded WR corps and a mobile QB against mediocre-to-bad teams.

That is coaching, folks.

And not incidentally, Coaches Jancek and Martinez, we are 123rd in the country in 4th-down conversion defense. Only 3-4 teams are worse.

How do you explain this, coaches? Are we really that bad? Are our players really that untalented?

Seems like he just needs to burn that chart and get a new one and all will be well. I bet he don't burn the chart....

These receivers aren't really helping either. They aren't fighting for the ball very often. Dobbs isn't an elite passer but he isn't bad either. These receivers need to help him out some and maybe the staff will air it out more. That being said, Azzani or Butch need to motivate them to fight for the ball. I'm not defending boneheaded coaching, just stating what I have seen from the receivers.

Agreed. Im wondering if the current qb situation just doesnt fit his scheme, and the long term plan is polar opposite of what we have now. Think about it. Last yr, JD wasnt in favor, for whatever reason. Coach goes and gets a pro style qb in QD, and another one for '16 and yet another for '17. Why is that?

Seems that maybe the coach knows and sees more than hes sharing, and perhaps a running/mobile qb is whats needed given the state of the OL??? Im sure if this is the case, hes not going to come out and say how bad the current situation is, right? Hes always been glass half full.

Does this possibly makes sense???

Agreed. I've seen that, too. They first need to GET OPEN, right? I mean, we all learned that when we were kids playing backyard football. If your QB is in trouble, MOVE and GET OPEN.

Hopefully, it is not that simple. Preston Williams came back to Dormady a week ago and got himself open for 6 last week. If a freshman can do that with our 2nd-string QB, one would think our other WR'S can figure it out with Dobbs.

Yesterday, it looked like Dobbs was only thinking run it myself once he started running. I think I saw him play action only once.

I will always support the Vols regardless. Do I think Butch Jones is the man for the job? No, I don't. He has no significant points that make him the right fit for a team and conference the caliber of the University of Tennessee or the SEC. I guarantee you, he is feeling pressure he has never felt before and he *could lose his job this year if he's not careful, though I believe he will be given 1 more season for numerous reasons, mainly to keep us from being in the same place we have been for the past several years.

It's not my call anyway but when Jones made the Debord hire, I knew then he was clueless. Good coaches surround themselves with other coaches that make them better. He made a comfortable hire.

We have the talent alone to win football games. Can we produce winning football under him. Probably. But we will never win championships. Listen to the way he talks. "Every game is going to be tough and we'll have to grind it out". I'm paraphrasing but he says something very similar. He's making them believe they are just good enough to compete in every ball game. That's plain stupid!

I've been saying since summer that I am fine if he would just make staff changes and let them have reigns. He is great at all aspects of building and leading a program, and if he strengthened his staff and let them have some control and learned from from, things would be well from my view. I am frustrated by the denial to admit his system is not "infallible" as he claimed when hired. He went out and found am OC that he knew would yield to his system and ways of thinking instead of one who was the best hire and who may shake things up and challenege him. Any leader who is more concerned with doing things their way instead of being humble enough to do whatever will bring success, will fail.
