Are the stars TOO aligned for the Gators?

I think Florida will have a good season, but I also think they could get screwed by an undefeated USC and an undefeated Big 12 team.

Their OOC schedule us an embarrassment and the in conference schedule is going to prove weak, but it's tough to unseat the preseason favorite.

WKU > CSU
Ohio < Troy
UCLA = FSU
Memphis = FIU

I'd say our OOC schedules are just about the same...

Shoot, they played the Western Carolina School for the Deaf & Dumb AND lost a game in 2006 but still made it to the title game.

As far as I know, the main reason for their 2008 title, the defense, is pretty well intact so I have no reason to believe they won't repeat if the main people stay healthy.

Yep. If they start out at #1 they could play the Sisters of the Poor every week and they would stay there.

I'm always impressed with Demps' ball position while running. I don't notice too many college runners who keep it high and tight as consistently as him....especially speed guys.
The RB coach said that he's one of the most coachable players he has. You can see a big difference between the way Rainey and Demps hold the ball. Demps is still fast as hell when holding it like that.

Reminds me of how Tiki Barber held it near the end of his career.

I think the Arkansas games is more daunting than the LSU game.

We get a bye before having to suit up and head down to Death Valley and Meyer's been pretty perfect given 2 weeks to prepare for a team. Everyone is conceding that the best chance to dethrone Florida will have to come from LSU but I don't think so, simply because everyone thinks that and again, we get a bye before.

2 games really scare me: Arkansas and @ South Carolina. The Arkansas game is RIGHT after the LSU game and that really gives me the jeepers creepers. As much as any Florida fan might tell you they're excited for the season, count me into the crowd that's walking on egg shells.

Thats a favorable schedule and they're going to have to lose twice anyway. Unless they get upset in the sec championship game i see them once again in the big game. Just one more year and this nightmare ends. Sucks we have to live it again.

this was pointed out by someone so, i will repeat it here. the odds are in florida's favor except for.....

here are recent national champions that returned their starting qb.

nebraska '94. repeated as champ.
tennessee '98. can't remember what bowl they went to in '99.
fsu '99. national title game in '00.
miami '01. national title game in '02.
usc '03 (split). repeated as champ.
usc '04. national title game.
florida '08?....

you can see that 5 of 6 on that list played for all the marbles again the following season (but, only two of them won).

i don't know how much of the other talent returned the following season for those other teams.

tennessee had the worst season (sorry, to bring that up) of those on the list and if memroy serves.....they still had a very good year in 1999.

"UCLA=FSU"

when FSU loses to BYU 59-0, then UCLA = FSU. until then, FSU actually went to a bowl game and won the bowl game. FSU > UCLA

One thing I am looking at is they have lost their OC. How much will that effect them? Plus Percy is gone.

It would be funny if the only SEC team to beat them is UT lol

Very unlikely scenario, but would be great. Harvin, as bad as I hate to say it, was probably the most dangerous player in college football. Very hard to replace that, so who knows, but I still think they repeat..ouch..hard to say..again this year

Remember: They don't have Percy anymore. He may have been the most undervalued player in college football last year with all the hype around Tebow. I think they will really miss him. They relied almost entirely on him and Tebow in a couple of games last year.

They will indeed miss Percy, but they beat FSU 45-15 with Percy only getting 13 total yards and beat undefeated Bama without using him at all. Demps, Rainey, Tebow, and Moody will still be more than adequate enough for a good rushing game.

Having said that UF will have a huge target on it's back in every game so I would be really shocked if they ran the table.

I can almost see Florida going undefeated through the season and SEC championship just to get their heads so high in the clouds that a hungry USC, Texas, or Oklahoma knocks them off.

Texas is the only one of those teams I see beating UF in a title game.
