The Florida Gators are everyone's pick to the win their 3rd national title in four years. Their QB has been called the greatest player in college football history. They return plenty of starters and their coach has actually taken what Spurrier built and taken it up a notch.

With all the things in their favor, do you think the Gators may crash and burn as a result? I'm talking one or two losses here, but that would be a definate letdown.

Remember, some of these guys are 18 and 19 year old kids. Is it possbile the Gators get caught reading their own press clippings? After all, this is the Southeastern Conference.

They could just as easily be out of the national title picture as they can be in it. No one can predict if they are going to get key injuries, get caught sleeping, or anything that could hamper their title run. All we know is they are in the driver's seat and that is a good place to be.

I believe the odds against a huge letdown are small. But I remember our high rankings a few years ago that was a disaster. Last year GA was to the darling of the experts and look where they ended up. It could happen, the ball can take crazy bounces in a game or two and there goes the season.

Its pretty hard to finish in the SEC without a defeat. The way the BCS goes, if they loose to the wrong team, or at the wrong time.......it could be over.

Great point. They were everyone's preseason #1 coming off a big win against Hawaii and Stafford and Moreno coming back.

That's true, but it's also the only conference where a team like LSU can go to the title game with 2 losses.

Everyone talks about the SEC being the toughest conference, but that also allows for a little wiggle room compared to the other conferences.

Id rather be in their position, than coming off a 5-7 year. That being said, they have all the national attenion, and hype that can be a big distraction. If they handle it, it will be 3 in 4 years.

I see no reason that they cannot have a 2007 type season.

This. They could very well go 9-4 again. While I don't think I'd bet on that, it is possible. I'd like to see Tebow make another "promise", but one he doesn't come through on...

Hawaii was out of their league, and some did not realize it.

That game mislead many into thinking that UGA was better than they were. As bad as we were last year, we were in that game in the 4th quarter.

what if we manage to pull the upset on florida and it completely ruins their mentality and then end up with 5-6 losses?

anyone need me to pass the kool-aid?

With this schedule, I do not see many opponents that match up evenly with them, if any. Keep in mind that Florida's usual difficult opponents in the SEC and non-conference are down right now. UT is rebuilding and installing a new offense, LSU has declined some, UGA has Willie Martinez and FSU hasn't been significant since the beginning of this decade. Although I hope for a UF stumble somewhere during the season, on paper it seems doubtful...but that is why the games are played on the Saturday's in the fall.

BTW, I'm surprised that none of the resident gators have not chimed in by now.

Remember: They don't have Percy anymore. He may have been the most undervalued player in college football last year with all the hype around Tebow. I think they will really miss him. They relied almost entirely on him and Tebow in a couple of games last year.

Dang, I read all the way down from the top to see you stole my thunder. I was gonna say Percy is gone so they will probably suck.

They will stumble IMO. LSU will be ready for them and Harvin was a weapon to keep people from keying on Tebow in big situations. Chavis held them to 243 yards with our personnel and LSU has had better recruiting than us lately so that should be their biggest test.

Our coaching staff will elevate the play of our team and we will surprise some people! They will put these guys in position to excel and from what I heard last week, all the incoming players will go to the head of the depth charts to see how they fare playing with the #1 guys. That will be an interesting test - 360 degrees from our prior staff.

Not sure I'd say we "held" Florida to anything last year. A lot of that yardage total was dictated by field position and Florida having a 17 point lead 10 minutes into the game.
