Are other teams going to dictate Hart's decision making?

With Arkansas, Auburn and UK on the slide is it fair to say the Vols might miss out if they don't make a move this year? I would like some honest discussion on the topic.

If Arky and Auburn make a move I think it would be detrimental to the Vols if they don't.

I don't see Auburn making a move this year. However it's pretty clear that Ark wants Charlie Strong. That puts Teneessee in a precarious situation. If they strike out on Gruden and Stoops and Strong is in Fayetteville where do they turn.

I'm not sleeping on Auburn. Of all the programs in the SEC i can see them jumping at the opportunity to give Petrino his second chance, especially given the fact that their boosters are familiar with him.

Agreed. And there's no if with Arky - they'll have a new coach next season.

You're right, I forgot about the secret meeting in Louisville in late 2003. Still I just don't see them firing a guy two years after a national title. That said, I think Petrino will still be available next year if Chizik does not turn it around.

Unless they take a special offering, that's probably who we get.

If they are paying the buyout cash....what is the difference between paying a coach 3 mill or 4 mill a year. It will be very interesting to see what Haslam has learned about the coaching world with his foray into the NFL.

UT will hire Kirby Smart, if we hire anyone.

I agree. I don't think Dooley made the decision to hire Sunseri. Dooley may not be a good football coach, but he isn't dumb. There's no way he hired Sunseri to come install a 3/4 defense, a 2-3 year project, in a year that he HAD to win.

Hart made the Sunseri decision to lay the groundwork for Smart. Smart will retain Sunseri, maintaining some coaching staff continuity, and defense is the quickest way back to relevance.

Smart isn't my preference, just my theory.

Jim Tressell, Dan Mullen, & Petrino come to mind. I really don't see Gruden or Stoops being interested.

Texas is a real possibility. Hard to imagine that VT wouldn't hand the team to Bud Foster.

I would think Foster would be VA Tech pick also but who knows. They may decide to go in a new direction.

Don't entirely disagree, but a lot has happened since we have had Sal on the hill for a year.

I wonder if Cinci is going to hold on to Marvin Lewis?

Why do people keep bringing up Tressell? He cannot coach anywhere right now.
