Are NegaVols for real?

There are some who can't deal with reality and find it treasonous for someone to point out something negative that is the truth.

I'll talk football with you. How many blocking schemes do you want to try? Straight power? Zone? Veer? Gap? Wing T? Slide protection? Hinge protection? Pick em. Then tell me how long it takes to fully implement any of them and truly be good. Couple that with the obvious inadequate depth we have on the ol. Now make your pick. It is far harder to change your system in the middle of the year than people realize. They say, just use the x or h receiver more. Why not run the toss sweep more. Could you see any of our linemen pulling and getting out in front of a sweep? Really? Our offensive production is up since Dobbs came in. Our defense has carried us most of the year, and our kicking game has been quite good. Plus, the players believe and play with passion and heart, inspite of their limitations or age. Want to talk some more? Let me know.
Wow...you are to self centered to see the truth.middle of the season? Ha we are pulling linemen now most defenders follow them in the backfield lol wr U ...not with Dobbs might as well recruit more blocking TE's.I'm sure the shotgun snap is by far the last thing I would run on 3rd and short. Did you not see Candy take advantage of our poor line splits? Hell you learn that in Jr high. P.S. some of the ole Veer Wing T stuff is used on many teams. Darr was a Dooley recruit ...omg . I thought only Butches players counted

Oh so you have coached. What level? How do you address player development as it pertains to the present situation at UT? In particular how would you deal with the lack of quickness and speed on the offensive line? What specific techniques would you employ to deal with UT's lack of strength on said line. Please apply your knowledge and experience as I probably missed something along the way. Thanks in advance.
let's start by making all freshman learn every position on the line....how's that worked out? Jack of all trades .master of none. Let's recruit big slow o- linemen to play tackle .but only in year 3. Our best lineman is a DT who switched to offense....but dear lord let's not hold the poor poor coaches responsible for scouting and evaluating players. Sit with me for a game I'll tell you what play we are running 85% of the time. Then maybe you will understand why its easy to shut down UT offense

I gave you several options to choose from. How is that self centered of me? I want you to provide the answers to the problems given our current situation. I also seem to remember us getting under center on 3 rd and short and 4th and short and getting stuffed both times. Surely you are not advocating a qb change to Peterman? And for the record I know that veer blocking and wing t principles are currently used. That is why I offered them as options for you to pick.

Biggest problem with most negavols is their lack of football knowledge. We have a patched together O line and our running back out, Fire the coaches. Play a team with a more experienced O than our D so they move the ball on us, fire the coaches. Play calling isn't the issue. If a team is outmanned then most plays won't work. We simply are outmanned as we should be with a young team and new staff. The big question is why are the established programs not beating us worse than they should be? Maybe they should fire their coaches.

What is so hard to understand. We played Georgia to the wire. A program with tons of talent and a coach who has been there for years. We beat Spurrier the last 2 years. A coach who is considered as one of the best and his system is fully established. We held our own against the best program in the nation. Played well at Oklahoma as well as against Missouri a program established with a long term well respected coach. We did all this while playing more freshmen than any team in the country. Good Grief guys get real.

They'll whine and complain and demand changes until there's nothing to rail on...then they'll wait...lay dormant like flea larvae. Life cycle of a Negavol.

No, negavols do not exist. What does exist are fans who have different opinions, and those who cannot accept that, who feel everyone should share one opinion, created the term negavol to try and belittle those fans and force them to conform. Some day, you will have an opinion that goes against the majority, and in an attempt to draw you back to the flock, you will be ridiculed and called a negavol yourself. When that time comes, remember when you did the same.

Civil conversation will always trump petty namecalling. Most posters are just too lazy to actually communicate though, so they resort to the easier choice. Any two year old can call another person names. It takes a pretty damn smart two year old to actually have a conversation.

I can respect dissenting opinion if it has any valid basis. It's just that some of it is continual Debbie Downer. It gets old.

No there is no such thing as a negavol just like there is no such thing as sunshine pumpers. Just different fans with differing opinions. Why is that so hard to understand and why do some of you get so offended if someone voices disapproval of some aspect of the program?
Truest Truth ever truly spoken...

Because NegaVols will take something positive that happens and spin that positive into something negative. When something good happens and all you can see is black.... :dunno:

Nope. But I can promise the best staff in america was far from cincy

Nor would one expect to find the best staff at Tennessee even though many would like to see that.

Coaches say things like that to create buy-in. Without 100% buy-in by the staff and players, you don't win. People need to quit nitpicking every little thing that is said and done. It's ridiculous and doesn't do any good for the program. It only creates dissension among players and fans.

When the disapproval is something completely ridiculous they should get called out. People around here lost their damn minds because of the way the offense played and when you point out that the ENTIRE line was replaced with green players they don't want to hear it. That's what drives me nuts.

Similarly, I guess we should also "call out" all the sunshine pumpers when they predict 12-0, 11-1 or 10-2 seasons or when they predict the Vols will beat Alabama each year or any of their other ridiculous, rosy prognostications. Fair is fair don't you think?

Or maybe we can just let people express their opinions without judgement ... just a thought.

I think some are confused. I haven't seen Christian Lowe in a few days on here, maybe Ijust hhaven't noticed, but he was positive, then negative, then positive. We're all guilty.

I think if TN had finished 7-5 the mood around here would be better. Losing to Mizzou, the SEC East champion, isn't something to be ashamed of.

Beating Vandy by 7 is also nothing to be embarrassed by either. Any Vol fan that has watched this series for the last few decades knows that it has usually been a close game. In fact I don't think a Peyton Manning lead team ever beat them by more than 10 points.

Cheer up folks, in another two or three years we'll be *****ing about losing 2 games.

Truth ^. I remember those days.

Johnny had his "1 yard and a cloud of dust"; Cutliffe had his "Dink and Dunk"; Chavis had his "3rd down and Chavis"; Fulmer had his "clawfense"; etc.

After 50+ years of being a VOL, I am resigned to the fact we will always have our "Legions of the Miserable".

Opinions on the interweb (positive or negative) are just that "opinions" ... some are funny, some are sad, some are trolling, and some are just plain head scratchers.

I, for one, am just glad I'm a VOL.

I am new to posting here, yet have watched for a long time. This thread, in particular, is what prompted me to register in order to participate in the conversation in some small way.

Negavol may be broken down, in my estimation, into four distinct categories, all of which are real:

1. Junior Samples: A small number of kids who don't really know shinola about sports at this level, or how to act in a public forum with respect. Small group with outsized numbers of posts.

2. Bitter alumni: A much larger, yet still minority number of posters who are unhappy with their ****ty lives, day-drink on a regular basis, and attack their school as a self-medication for their personal problems (they seem to show up after 6:00 pm every day and blast diatribes after every difficult play during games, indicating they have few friends).

3. Anti-UT troll/never attended: Some of these are clever, after a fashion. They don't usually last here, but they are real. Some have been persistent. (See type 4 for the persistent variety)

4. The combo-package: By FAR the largest group. You hear them on the radio and they post everywhere - Never went to college, generally unhappy with their life, drunken blue-collar a*****s. Most of this variety of "negavol" are Tennesseans. Some, however, are not. The jackasses who fouled The Rock on campus this year prior to Alabama certainly weren't Tennesseans (although they probably live here), yet they belong in this category. What none of them are, are VOLUNTEERS in the strictest sense of the word; meaning University of Tennessee students, alumni, parents of alumni, serious donors, volunteers (with a lower-case "v") to the program, or any type of serious participant in the University. Yet they claim a right to be vile to the program, usually on bizarre pretexts, often described as something like "...I have always <insert non-sequitur...something, something> TENNESSEE!...."

(Bless your heart, son, but if you never went to UT, inheriting season tickets from your wife's grandpap doesn't give you the standing you seem to think it does. And going to a game or two once in a while via company/buddy/scalp tickets doesn't buy you a pass to be a constant downer either.)

There. Might be off base on some of that. Might not be too far off, either.

You joined just so you could post that? A little judgemental are we? I know, your probably just calling it the way you see it.

By the way which one of those categories do you fall in? let me guess...........none of them right? Because your a true VFL and by default, that gives you the right to pass judgement. Hey look Volnation we have a new fan police, judge and jury member!

Oh, don't get me wrong because there are gonna be several greater than thou riding their high horse members that are gonna like the hell outta your post.

Just wondering. Also, I would wonder their average age. I'm guessing somewhere in the 15 to 17 year range.

That is about the age that adolescents begin to think that know everything and those who are older than 25 know nothing. Fact is they know just enough to make fools of themselves.

Yes, you should. Don't coddle people, we are all fans and having eternal confidence is fine but my issue is when we talk shop. In a serious discussion about the merits and flaws of the team it is perfectly reasonable to call out people who are being unrealistic, which was my point in my earlier statement.

Wrong. Most here take ANY criticism...warranted or not...as being a NegaVol. That's just pure, Sunshine-pumping, orange-colored BS.
