I'm a big fan of Coach G. Give him talented guys with the drive to work hard and he can mold them. But I do feel like he's taken a step back in recruiting. He doesn't seem to land the monsters he once did. I do wonder if part of that is how we divvy up our NIL? Seems we spend more on offense than we do on defense. Not much he can really do to counteract bigger budgets other teams seem to have for defense.

Have you looked at our LEO room? And then Campbell, West, and Hobbs were all very high level recruits

they aren’t all five star players. He could do better

<sigh> I guess I should have been more specific. First off, I was talking about DTs/SDE, not LEOs, which some of the players you listed are LEOs, coached by Chop. Second, I'm very hopeful for Campbell. Third, most of the 4*'s we got were not upper echelon. Still count as blue chips, so that's great, but just an example, Albert is ranked like the 29th DL on 247. USC has like 3 DL in the top 10 of DL committed. Texas has 4 DL committed who are rated higher than Albert. LSU has 3. AS I SAID, I'm a big fam of Garner, but he used to be in on all the top guys. And I don't think it's necessarily on him. I think our NIL budget is skewed towards offense.

Honestly, I think some of you only read half a post and react. It's like none of you actually want to talk football unless it's spitting rainbows out of your butt.

You are completely disregarding the fact we landed one of the best DT/SDE classes last cycle.

Campbell was a FIVE STAR.

Mariyon Dye was a top 100 player.

Ethan Utley was a top 250 player and picked us despite serious interest from Georgia.

You can’t just stack 10-12 top 100 kids in a position group anymore with NIL.

Our staff is doing a great job of landing elite guys and then filling in behind them with quality players that might be a little more developmental. It’s why our roster retention has been as good as it has under Heupel.

Yeah I don’t always agree w Weezer but that’s an especially bad take. CRG deserves as much credit as anyone for our resurgence.

We are paying for edges, but we’ve landed two top 50 overall DT’s in the last 3 years.

Edit: it’s been discussed. We are paying positions like NFL teams.

Hobbs was a 5 star #4 DT on rivals/on3, and the #4 DT (#36 overall, 4 spots away from a 5 star there also). His composite was an overall 4 star due to the typically lack of effort from ESPN recruiting where he was a lowly #166 overall. Point being he was a very highly regarded DT as a recruit and definitely not a paper blue chip player.

I’m excited to see him play this year as i think we have sorely missed him so far this year.

Haynesworth didn’t. He was known as a lazy player and didn’t start full time (Rashad Moore, another NFL starter was a starter ahead of him in 2000 and co-started in 01). He did have a pretty good junior year, but was drafted as high as he was based mostly on upside. He never made 1st team All SEC. He was a much better pro than college player.

Now Henderson was a beast in college. He was a really good pro, but great college player. Haynesworth was a great pro, but good college player.
