Apparently we aren't the only ones who like Eric Berry

If he continues on his current pace there is no doubt he will be a 1st round draft pick. #1 is to high a projection though.

This ridiculous mock draft also has Berry listed at the cornerback position. While he was recruited as a cornerback, he's been used to-date as a safety, and that will hurt his draft status. Cornerbacks are more highly sought in the NFL draft than safeties.

LaRon Landry, Reggie Nelson, and Michael Griffin all went in the first round of the 2007 draft. Landy went sixth overall. Cornerbacks generally get drafted more, but if there is a safety good enough, he'll go very high.

Berry has the cover speed to be the highest safety ever chosen, but #1 is absolutely crazy.

Indeed. I'm just saying I don't think being a safety will hurt him anymore than being a cornerback would. I'm pretty sure a DB has never been selected with the top pick.

You can argue the point all you want. Safeties don't get selected #1 overall, and THAT was the substance of the mock draft. There is a BIG difference between being a first round pick and being the #1 overall selection. Cornerbacks are generally valued much more highly than safeties, and they generally earn more money than safeties in the NFL.

Exactly, Eric Berry could be the best prospect in the draft and still not be selected in the top 5. Its very rare that a safety be selected that high. WTBS, i think he'll be a top 10 pick.

I didnt say anything to the contrary.

I don't think he will play safety in the NFL. He's a little undersized, even though he is a great hitter. I think he will be the next great cover corner in the NFL. I have heard lots of comparisons to Champ Bailey. If he continues on that path those comparisons could very well make him a #1 pick if the draft order falls in line correctly.

Amazing to me that people actually put out a mock draft for 2011 in 2008.

What makes you think he'll be a great cover corner? The weakness in his game last season was coverage. It will be much easier for him to put on 15 lbs and be a monster safety than it will for him to be an elite coverage guy.

Even if he becomes the best cover guy in the history of college football and surest tackling safety ever seen, he is not going to be the #1 draft choice.

I could see him going in the range of the 5th-10th picks, but even that would depend on his continued success and the needs the teams with those picks. The only thing I'm sure of is that he will be a top 20 pick.

Well I think his athleticism and speed will allow him to be great in coverage. His weakness may have been coverage, but I don't that is too unusual for a True Freshman that wasn't even expecting to start all but one game. I hope he has a lot time left in his career here and we can watch and see what kind of an NFL player he will be best suited to be. You are probably right about the #1 pick though. Hopefully he will continue to be a great player here and even be considered a top pick.

Wow, I just realized how far ahead of myself I have gotten. Maybe we all have gotten. All signs point to a great future for Eric Berry, we can all see that, but I think for now I'm just going to enjoy watching him knocking the piss out Percy Harvin and taking back pick 6's for 95 yards for the next couple years. The rest will take care of itself.
Go Vols!

this guy is an idiot, Crabtree will be the #1 WR taken in next years draft, no way in hell he stays till 2011 lol

I dont see Bradford staying 3 more years either. I know this is a hypothetical draft but this guy loses more credibility by posting this than he gains.

The number of assumptions you have to make to come up with a list like this is flat out unfathomable.
