App State could be this years Memphis

Like some have said,App St is a really good team. Yes,they have experience and coaching to go along with some good football players but what impressed me was they played together as a team. It would not surprise me if they win 10 or more games and beat Miami at home.

They we re 11-2 last year. Won a bowl game and are favored to win their conference this year. I'm not sure how that equals Memphis last year, or whether it shows the intelligence or lack there of of the OP.

11-2, in their first year of FBS Football? That doesn't happen very often.

They would have shut out Oklahoma!

I do think they will get by Miami in Boone!

I had to go look this up to make sure it was right. Can't believe Miami is going to Boone, NC to play.

That actually makes me slightly think twice about this game.

Tennessee could be last year's Tennessee....Will go as far as the OL and Dobbs can take them.

It's right ... and Miami fans are livid! Miami needed an FBS game and was not being successful at filling that final 2016 slot. Our AD negotiated a home and home with them. We've heard all sorts of garbage from Miami fans for some reason. :eek:lol:

If you want to see something fun, be in Boone on 09/17 to watch this math:
Population of Boone without students 18,000
App State enrollment 18,000
Yes, the town doubles in size when school is in session.

Stadium capacity (not counting GA grass sections) 23,150
Tickets sold for 09/17 (including GA grass sections) 37,000

Here's an aerial view of our little stadium.

The grass hill in the south endzone is GA. There are also temporary bleachers in the north endzone (larger than what appears in this picture). Yes, there's a track around our field ... flat land is at a bit of a premium in Boone.

What impressed me about App State was:

1) Game prep on offense - they had various plays out of the same set; TN didn't have an answer until the 4th qtr
2) RB play - he'll definitely get a shot at a combine/draft
3) LB play - strong in run defense

I love Boone, but I can't believe Miami agreed to that or didn't just write a check and play it at home. Then again, it's not like Miami is a huge draw.

And I guarantee they beat Miami September 17. The game is looking more and more to me like when Ole Miss traveled up to Memphis last year and lost. The game will be at App State. It'll be their biggest home game in program history. They'll be confident based on how they pushed us.

I got App State shocking the nation and beating Miami in 2 weeks.

No way they beat Miami. They'll be more prepared than TN was.

I know people from Johnson City going to the Miami game which should be quite a game day atmosphere. A few years ago U of Miami was averaging about 40,000 fans a game at home so they aren't really giving up much by ACC standards playing in Boone. Good luck on the 17th!

Beautiful stadium. Should be a great time/atmosphere. That being said, Miami QB and WRs are gonna have a field day against that secondary. Miami route.

Could be rattled by the crowd. Not used to seeing 24000 people in the stands.

App State's RB, o-line, and linebackers were physically as big as you expect from Power 5 teams. That's about it. The difference between them and UMass, Liberty, etc is that they have a lot of team speed and athleticism that can match up to most of the better teams. They likely don't have the depth to pull off a similar performance late in the season, but they don't need it to win with their schedule. Those kids are also really well coached.

same could be said about Houston....'cept for UL late in the year.

App State is better than most people think, but I'm not sure they're that good yet. That being said, if you are surprised by how App State matched up, you haven't been paying attention.

Not because I think Appy St. is all that, but because I think Miami is not as good as they think they are.
