It's obvious that regardless of what they say, in lieu of losses in the top 25, the polls are strongly influenced by the victory margin of the winners. Look how far Texas dropped after losing to the #1 team by 17. If it had been a 1 point loss, maybe 2 places at most. The AF game was a perfect trap game with Florida coming up and the Vols held on. In my book that means a lot.
Don't kid yourselves. Rankings are important. It's important where you start because the starting point has as much if not more impact on where you end up as how good your team is or your victories are.
I actually like Bowden and FSU... but their ranking is absolutely ridiculous. AFA would run Troy off the field. FSU's difficulty scoring against Troy reveals a few things about the Miami-FSU showdown also. Troy played FSU as well at FSU as Miami played them in Miami. The coaches poll not only has Miami above UT... they moved up a spot to 15th after beating no one.
I hope AFA makes UT look good by continuing to play well. They could easily be 6-1 and ranked by the time they play ND.
If the 31-17 score had held up, Cal certainly did what they could to make UT's thumping of them look better.
The Coaches poll dropped FSU one place to 10th and left UT at 17. Miami moved up to 15th after beating 1AA FAMU 51-10.
I guess the moral of the story is go ahead and play a couple of 1AA teams. You'll save injuries and as long as you score lots of points the polls will love you anyway.
Scheduling AFA should between Cal and UF should get someone fired.
