AP Poll Nov. 10

Like Massey rankings this early in the season, the AP Poll shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
That said, being in the top half of the twenty-five ranked teams seems reasonable. But let's remember that this poll is, at present, based more on educated opinions than on facts.

Edited to add: Sometimes I forget that polls are all about what we did last week, and tell us precisely diddly-squat about the future. Will this week's competition be stronger or weaker?
Will previously injured players return to the court? Will good coaching help us overcome some flaws? About the only constant is LSU's creampuff feasting until the SEC matches begin. :D

So Lady Vols Lose to a team 1 spot behind them at their place and drop 4 spots. NC St loses to a team 9 places behind them and drops 1 spot. Hhhmmm

I had plans that prevented me from seeing the USC-NCST game, so I don't know for sure, but maybe others have an idea. My wild guess would be that NCST is getting higher scores on voters' eye tests than Tennessee is getting so far. That would make sense, at least.

I think some of it is historical also. The LVs burned a lot of pollster goodwill in the last few Harper years by being what Charlie Cream called, accurately, consistently underwhelming.

Meanwhile NC State unexpectedly went to the Final Four last year.

We get absolutely no grace from the poll voters and haven’t for a decade. Burned them too many times with Kellie and Holly starting in the Top 10 and then dropping all the way out of the Top 25.

I also believe the “legacy” of the Lady Vol name may have gotten them in the dance during some of those years coached by those mentioned above.

Can’t get anything past you…. But to help clear it up for you. Baylor, USC, Maryland and UNC all jumped the Lady Vols while they lost to a #9 team and NCState loses to a #18 team.
It was pretty clear to me to begin with. The four that jumped up are undefeated and it wouldn’t make sense to put UT over NCSU right now. All things considered, the original question I posed is the only relevant one to your initial gripe: I asked “ Which teams currently ranked below NCSU would you rank above them?” Because that was the premise of your original post, that NCSU didn’t drop as far as UT did.

Only 2-0 UNC stands between NCSU and UT in the AP rankings.

The AP poll looks fine so far for what has transpired. The newly released coaches poll looks a little wonky, but like most have already pointed out, it’s way too early to nit pick any of these polls. It will sort itself out. Win and move up.

I still think maybe Tennessee just isn't passing many eye tests so far. I believe we've had a few moments we've looked decent, but overall? I think we can see by the post-game pressers that the Lady Vols aren't passing Kim Caldwell's eye test, and she has pretty much told voters that the team isn't doing very well yet. So maybe the voters are picking up on that. I'm actually kinda surprised we didn't drop another spot or two. NOT that I think that would be right or fair, but because of the overwhelming general feeling -- even on this board where the program is much loved -- that they are, so far, still a major work in progress.

I think we'll start clicking soon. I'm not sure we'll get there before the trip to Los Angeles, but we can hope! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
