AP Poll is out

Hard to accurately rate teams when there is still a lot of unknowns and many teams are 2-0...Teams like Texas, Louisville, Wisconsin, and Washington are not top 10 teams...Hope they enjoy the rankings while they are on top.

Just go dog stomp our opponents, take an "us against the world" mentality, don't give two s***s what the polls or anyone else thinks about us and the rankings will take care of themselves.

Why are they not top ten teams? Wis beat LSU and the other two look good.

We need to stop worrying about what our rank is and focus on making improvements and keep winning..... the polls will take care of themselves

AP poll has no bearing on playoffs.

Well, we know that's not true, Kristy.

The AP (and Coaches) polls set the conditions for the conversation. What conversation? Practically every conversation.

Who do ESPN, CBS, Fox, and all the other media key in on during the week? Teams in the (AP) Top 25.

Who get all the storylines? Teams in the (AP) Top 25.

What games get aired on the national networks? Those involving teams in the (AP) Top 25.

So we're all inundated with this conversation, for weeks on end, before the CFP committee ever meets for the first time. We, and they, are conditioned to look in a certain direction, to expect certain things, to measure in a certain way.

Oh yes, the AP poll has HUGE bearing on the playoffs. And it has already begun.

p.s. Please don't take that to mean that I'm agreeing with the fellow who says some mythical "they" are locking the SEC out of the playoffs except for Alabama. There is no monolithic "they." The AP poll voters don't think or act en masse, they're a bunch of individuals each casting their own votes.

Every team ranked ahead of Tennessee right now has to play another team ranked ahead of Tennessee right now. Some have to play multiple teams. Over the next two months a lot of them will knock each other down the rankings. Doesn't matter if Tennessee is ranked #1 or #25 right now - win and they're in. Lose and they are on the outside looking in, and at the mercy of other teams losing.

As far as Oklahoma, their next three games are Ohio St, Texas, and TCU. I know, TCU is unranked but will be a tough opponent. After those three games are over I'm confident Oklahoma will be ranked where they should be.

We'll move up to #12 next week after 3 ranked teams ahead of us lose. Most likely it'll be Louisville, Oklahoma, and Michigan State.

Then after we beat Florida, we'll move up to #9.

Then we'll beat Georgia and move up to #7.

If Louisville loses to FSU, they should still outrank us.

If we win the Eastern Division & the SEC Championship game, what would the rankings matter?

It don't matter if we're 3rd, or 100th right now. Cause if we can't win the East, that 3rd ranking got us no where. If we're 100th right now and went on and won the SEC, then we're going somewhere. Nothing matters unless we can win the SECCG. Unless the SEC falls apart of course

We're tied for 7th in Vegas right now (with LSU) at 18-1, so there's that. I suspect a few too many people on here put some money down on the Vols (myself included), but 7th is pretty good still.

As for the polls, don't forget the impact only a few voters can make on your position. Remember, one "coach" voted us 1st in preseason. Likely a number of voters had us in the low teens to start the season and dropped us a few spots, and those few people that were really high on us, dropped us a bunch, causing us to drop more spots than we feel we should have. I feel there was likely less consensus about where we belonged at the start of the season (and still maybe), than there was for a bunch of teams.
