AP Poll is out

I wish we could play higher ranked teams all season and beat every one of them. Not likely. But, excellent motivational tool and Vols appear to need to figure out what motivates them ASAP!

About right, although I would have A&M above the Vols and UGA

You have to let things work themselves out. If I was a voter I would never catapult teams like they did with A&M a couple of years ago or Texas this year. Good win, it could look good on your resume later on, but that team you beat could also go on to lose a bunch of games.. now you're ranked high as all get out and giving yourself cushion to lose and still remain ranked.

What if Notre Dame loses 6 games this year.. is shooting Texas to 11 justified at that point? What if Texas loses some games as well, now they have a shot at staying ranked until the end of the season simply because they were gifted a great ranking.

So, I don't think A&M is better than us still.. and beating a ranked UCLA team doesn't prove that they are.

We'll move up to #12 next week after 3 ranked teams ahead of us lose. Most likely it'll be Louisville, Oklahoma, and Michigan State.

Then after we beat Florida, we'll move up to #9.

Then we'll beat Georgia and move up to #7.

I also do not agree with 5 big 10 teams in the top 13. The trio of UT, UGA and A&M at 15-17 should easily be sprinkled between the trio of Iowa, Mich St. and Wisconsin. I think Oklahoma and ND are over ranked while Arkansas is not ranked high enough. JMO
I liked your assessment due to my thinking likewise, Ty. Don't we just love those polls? I know I do, but in these times of P5s and conference playoffs, 120's singular goal...until it's achieved... is to win the SECe. That's our focus point and, regardless of the hype put out by all the participating pundits, only winning the SEC will get our Vols into the NCG. Just win, just win, just win. AMIRIGHT?

Maybe someone should show these voters the replay of the UT/Iowa game. There's no way they're better than us.

Ohio State is at Oklahoma this week. One of them will lose. If it is OU - with 2 losses they will drop. If it is OSU, it will depend upon the score.

FSU is at Louisville - something will give.

Michigan does not get to the meat of their schedule until late in the season - so they will ride this then play at MSU, at Iowa and at OSU and more than likely go into all those places ranked really high. If they come out unbeaten then they deserve the ranking - but I really don't expect them to.

Clemson has both FSU and Louisville - if they don't fix their problems, October could be the month they fall.

Alabama has Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee on the road.

Tennessee just needs to focus on Tennessee - if they continue to win, regardless of whether it is pretty or ugly - they will not have to worry what sports writers or other teams coaches think about them.

In the SEC rankings are pretty irrelevant. Only lose 2 games and win the conference and I think you're pretty much in the playoff. I believe We control our own destiny. A team like Houston needs to run the table and get help from the pollsters.

CBS poll drops UT big but keeps App and VT in top 50.

Depends.... I am not sure UT gets in if they win the SEC and only have 1 loss... depends on who the lose is to... meaning I think UT better beat Bama twice.

Don't be surprised by UT having to beat Bama three times to win the whole thing, although it might still be unlikely all that pans out.

That's ok . I can wait until Iowa, Washington, and Texas choke. And while we're at it, WASHINGTON? Who in the hell put those guys above Stanford? Or us for that matter...

I'm OK w/ 15...think it's about right, until we prove what we can do in two weeks. Would switch T A&M for Iowa. Paridy in SEC is crazy (#'s 15, 16,17, 19, 20, 23, 24)...getting to be like NFL, in that, have to "bring it every week", or will get exposed...

I think we take a nice jump us if we beat Florida. That is everyone's test for us. Maybe 6 or 7 then.
