The AP is reporting this, but as far as I know, it isn't based on the results of a recount or a concession by Allen. Does anyone know more? Heck, I live in Richmond, and I haven't heard a dang thing!

I've seen in a couple of places that Allen doesn't want to "drag this out". I think that's code for "I think I have lost and since I still have aspirations for running for office I don't want to appear bitter."

A la Gore, eh? Probably the smart thing. Also, the guy probably can scratch "Run for President" off his things to do list anyway with all his rediculous gaffes during that campaign...he and Kerry should get together and go bowling.

Macaca Man is finished. Foot in mouth disease will keep him from doing much more. He'll do the Dan Quayle circuit for a while and try to come back in 4 to 6.

The most he can hope for is to lay low for a while and keep his mouth shut. He and Kerry seem to have this desire to run their mouth in front of cameras.

Advice to Allen? Don't write any fiction books any time soon. There's no telling what latent feelings come out in the form of fiction with him.

I heard the canvasing is not changing anything, and will be complete today. It looks like his only shot is a recount, which would be political suicide to pursue given the implications of an overturn.

Well a recount wouldn't even begin until November 27th. The canvassing will check to make sure nothing stands out as odd in machines, paperwork, etc. Canvassing will not 'help' in electronic voting machine instances. It usually only helps with dimpled and dangling chad paper ballots.

Also keep in mind that the same issue occurred in VA last year and with a similar total of votes, only 37 votes changed hands.

well the canvasing also checks things like tallies, provisional ballots etc. But agreed nothing is going to change, but the results cant be certified until after canvasing, and the challenge cant come until after intial vote is certified. If 7k votes do suddenenly appear in a recount though, something is very fishy, and would cause a major uproar given the implications to control of the senate, plus how polarized that race was anyway. I think we can confidently say that the dems now control the house and the senate.
