AOE Online

I'm missing what makes this MMO? Sounded intriguing, but as I suspected, there's no way that could work with a RTS.

yeah - I was wondering what makes it "MMO"...

Online coop play and a few more features. I watched a review on youtube that referred to it in that way. Still going through the tuts right now. My understanding is you can get attacked at anytime from others.

Oh...... ok. So what you build your civilization and then someone attacks you... Does it just place your world next to theirs and then you battle? So basically new civilizations are materializing at random around your borders?

I'm confused. I looked at the website and it didn't clear up much. Sounds interesting, but how do you plan for a battle if you can't see what's going on outside your borders?

To be honest, I am still confused after watching a couple reviews and playing. Maybe after I get through the walk-through it will make more sense.

It looks like it shows promise, but I don't remember AoE games being so cartoony.

[edit] never mind, I'm thinking of Rise of Nations. It will be hard to top Civ for historical RTS games in my book, but if there is a free version, I might as well give it a shot at some point.

What's deep about it? Explain, please. I am a fan of RTS games, and would like to know what I'm missing out on.

In a nutshell... you use your common villagers to collect resources (food, wood, gold, stone) to build your army and economy up. Once you feel your up to par, you can go after your quest (takeout another village, save other villages, etc....)

Basically on my last one I had spearman rein-enforcement replenishing every second almost. I had an army of over a hundred taking out very small villages.

Here is a very nerdy yet very informative gameplay video of the game IBubbleI vs JusticeFive GvG Age of Empires Online Free vs Premium - YouTube

I played AOE 2 and AOE3 over the last several years, have debated on getting this one. I fear where my grades will go if I buy the game.

And to brag, I was a beast at AOE2: Conquerors. ~1900. Not so much in the third one.

So it sounds like your permanent game is your capital city, and you continue to upgrade it which gives you access to certain perks when on quests? Then if you embark on a PvP quest, it's essentially you establishing a new colony, and trying to take out another player's new satellite city? So it's basically like any RTS come before, but with a bit of permanent upgradeability?

Am I way off?

Somewhat yes and no I guess. I am still figuring more about it as I go. I need help now on a horde quest. I can not make it past the 7 wave by myself. Only need to hold off 10 waves to complete it.
