Anyone think we should keep jones for rest of season??

I do. As long as the players continue to play hard and with effort I would let him stay. Might be the only way to avoid that 8 or 9 loss season. Might still happen but with an interim, i'm sure it happens.

No one believes anyone on this staff has any chance at being the new head coach. The players know that. You make someone an interim they have no reason or no one to play hard for. That ensures 8 losses, maybe 9 IMO..

Don't know keeping Butch avoids it either but at least the players are giving effort. If they stop, things will be uglier.

Are you telling me that team on the field last night hadn't gave up? Especially the defense

I have said pretty consistently that the UK game was the logical end point for this regime. If the blowouts to UGA and Bama didn't make it clear, losing to USC and UK and ensuring a losing conference record should make it plain to even the most die-hard of supporters that Butch simply can't get it done.

If you want to let him finish coaching the season, that's fine, but make the announcement today, so that the official search can get underway and the fan base knows that change is coming. I can't imagine how toxic the environment around the program will get if we have four more weeks like the last few have been.

I do but one more loss it becomes a 5-7 season at best. Fulmer 5-7 got him fired.

How many Vol Fans on this board believe we should keep Jones as our HC for at least the rest of the season? :hi:

There are plenty, they’re just in hiding right now. They’re the same ones who earlier in the season were the first posters to pounce on anyone who dared show actual insight and knowledge of the game and what was going on with Jones and the program.....about half the posters on VN.

But don’t worry, they’re still out there biding their time, biting their tongues until they feel it’s safe to come out of the shadows, ready to condescend to the posters who love the Vol football program rather than one failed, transient football coach.

Yes he will coach the remainder of the season.
The players are still playing hard.
Early signing day is already shot.
We can't interview a new coach until late Dec.
Fulmer got fired in season and I don't think he wants that to happen again.

I think we should keep Jones, in a cell at Brushy Mountain; for the good of college football.

No where to go but down.
The longer he stays the worse for recruiting.
An interim is the normal way to go.
Stop being an inabler!

There's no reason to keep him the rest of the year except to torture the fan base or a lack of leadership in the AD. He should have had to uber his butt home after the game.

The problem with how Fulmer was fired was that they hired away like a thief in the night Lane Kiffen.

I follow UT sports pretty closely, but don't know the Administration very well. Do they really not care enough to make a change?

Trying to get the Tennessee to make changes when needed is like trying to impress upon a 16 year old the importance of changing the oil in her car. Most will just wait for someone else to do it for them, and the engines blows and they wonder what happened.

It's hard for me to understand what the UT administration seeks to gain by keeping Jones. There is absolutely no feasible way to salvage his reputation or the season. So what do you gain by keeping him? Baffling.

If change was to come, I always suspected it would be after a KY loss. Fully expect it to come today or tomorrow. If it doesn't, it may be a money issue. I don't know the wording of his contract, but if there's wording that drops his buyout for not being bowl eligible, that could be behind the delay. To angry fans, it akin to Monopoly money, but to the AD a couple of million saved is no small thing.

Having just typed that, Hyams says his UT source tells him no presser is scheduled today or tomorrow. Looks like Butch will be here for homecoming.

Most 16 year olds learn their lesson when their first car ends up with a cracked head though.

Looks like to me it will be the end of the year. Maybe the guy Currie wants is still coaching.

At this point worrying about never losing 8 games is insignificant when looking at the overall picture. Fire him now Currie! The season is lost, you may be able to save a decent recruiting class, with the right hire. 🔥 Fire him now! 🔥

The big picture is what is important, Jones isn’t the guy for Tennessee. Stop delaying the inevitable. Florida is on the cusp of firing their coach, we DO NOT want to compete with them in the coaching market.

I agree. The "never lost 8 games in a season" record really is nothing to brag about imho. I personally wanted the change to happen after the Georgia massacre. This teams problem isn't really desire as much as the real lack of player development. That failure plus more player attrition yields 3-5.
By now, the AD should know keeping Jones isn't going to make any positive impact on this team.

No..Best chance to save recruits is to get football coach early in December and fire Jones
now... Otherwise, 2 new records are in play. Most losses in season- 8 and first Tennessee
team to lose all SEC games in one season. Coach Jones does not develop players and cannot coach in the xs and os during the game...

Fans need to forget about this class. There's no saving especially if the rumor about Mayes committing to Clemson is true. There may be some who really want to wear orange who will hang through a new coach being hired, but many will be lost. Just the way this goes. Nothing new.

The cost of his buy out. And they're likely to replace him with another bargain basement unknown , so what difference does it make? We're the only one s that care about What Used to Be.

Maybe the reason he is not, or will be fired until the end of the season is that we may already have his replacement. Maybe said person cannot do anything until a specific timeline. The university saves some money if they keep him because it is inevitable we will be paying butch out. So why not save a few dollars as they also know the seasons lost. I personally would be shocked if we actually did have the next one ready before we fired him.
