Also think of this......what if HD-DVD wins the battle?!?!? What will that do to PS3s? Maybe nothing, but if blu-ray wins then the xbox hd-dvd is seperate. But I see a two companies joining forces later in HD-DVD & blu-ray
If anything, PS3 will help Blu-Ray win. A lot of people I've seen aren't really interested in the moment in either, but buying PS3s will help Blu-Ray movie sales go up. I don't see people clamoring to shell out $200 for the Microsoft HD-DVD player, either.

Real world...the two machines are fairly indentical power wise. 80-90% of games will be cross platform when it's all said and done. Costs are too high now for most companies to be exclusive or to really flesh out the minute special abilities of each machine.

I'm hoping Sony's online offering is strong. MS has them whipped here for the time being and they have basically a 3 to 4 year head start. With the problems they are having (company as a whole plus blu ray problems), I don't think they have the ability to simply "purchase" an online system with money. It will take lots of development time and probably never reach LIVE this go around.

The HD disc formats are VHS and Beta all over again. I'd be hesitant to buy either one on it's own. PS3 has a BluRay player....great. I don't buy movies and in 2 or 3 years, players will be dirt cheap, even if they are dual format players. Not really something I care about, but I know plenty do.

I hope MS and Sony do well. Let them slug it out. It means they have to one up each other in an effort to get my dollars. That's what I want to see.

I'll report back on Friday after I've had some game time with Resistance. Looks like a fun game.

You gonna invite me over? :)

I guess since I got screwed with Sony cutting production to North America and can only get a core system, I am going to hold off for the premium....meaning I will not be getting mine tomorrow.

Freak, you're welcome anytime to come over. You have the cell phone # if you want to check it out Friday or over the weekend. I'm not working Friday. Then again, I guess with you guys moving this week you might actually have to be around the office.

Live news reports from outside the big box retailers in Nashville this am showing what they call "camp Playstation". People here have been in tents since yesterday. Most people interviewed say they are buying to sell on ebay. Seems like you could find an easier way to make $400-$500 (seems to be what the ebay market is allowing for mark-up right now). So do I understand that the 80 gig system is not available in the US?

I was one this morning going for over $2000. Damn I wish I had preordered a PS3.

Profits on ebay will far exceed $500. You're looking at $2K-$3K prices easy this weekend.

There is no 80gig system anywhere in the world, unless you swap out the drive yourself.

hmmm...well I guess if I were a jobless college kid I it'd probably be worth it. I have not priced the decks on ebay in a while, I just know that last month the preorders were selling for $900-$1,000. I kind of doubt I'll buy one anyway, my newest deck is an N-64 that has a special place of honor on a closet shelf stacked on top of my NES and Sega Master System.

That's pretty amazing. I'd feel like a rube if I paid that. I guess it's not 80gig but I thought this consolde was going to be offered in a 20-something and 80-something memory???

judging by what I just saw on ebay checking most recently completed auctions you should be able to get one for about $1,500-$1,600. A few are popping up around $3-4K and even fewer are in the $600-$1,000 range.

Keep watching. Folks don't realize how much stock was cut. There are also more options available tonight and tomorrow. It will blow up this weekend and next week. Then, again in mid December you'll see spikes again.
