Thats fine. We can disagree- I guess I am just not seeing your position that it is the 3rd Saturday in October?

Is it because we have the 12th open so even though it is on the 4th calendar date, it is our 3rd game in October?

If thats the case, yes- I suppose that is true. But it doesn't change the fact the rivalry is called "The 3rd Saturday in October" and not "The 3rd Saturday in October That We Have a Football Game".

And for Alabama, it is their 4th football game. They don't have an open date in October next year.

No, man. I can count Saturdays. In spirit, it will still be the third Saturday in October to me. I'm still going to refer to it as the third Saturday in October, even though it's clearly not. People may be confused, but I don't care. I'm a Vol, and we play Bama on the third Saturday in October. Therefore, when we play Bama, it's gonna be the third ******n Saturday in October regardless of what day it is. If we played Bama in September next year, it would still be the third Saturday in October. See how that works? Now I can get back to focusing my energy on hating Alabama.

I was not confused until I read this thread.

But I agree with Shake Your Body..........even if the calendar says that it is the fourth Saturday In October............just think of it as the third for historical purposes

No it didnt. Go to utsports.com and look at the schedules.
Since 1980, it has been the 3rd except in 87 (2nd), 96 (4th) and 08 (4th)

2011 - 10/22/11 (That was the 4th Sat in Oct... 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd)
2010 - 10/23/11 (That was the 4th Sat in Oct.... 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd)

We were wrong. It happens. :mf_surrender:

Okay if the first is a Saturday the third Saturday is the 15th. If the 1st is a Sunday the third Saturday is 21st. Therefore any date between the 15th and 21st is the 3rd Saturday

Dates of the Bama-Tennessee game
2012 - 20th - 3rd
2011 - 22nd - 4th
2010 - 23rd - 4th
2009 - 24th - 4th
2008 - 25th - 4th
2007 - 20th - 3rd
2006 - 21st - 3rd
2005 - 22nd - 4th
2004 - 23rd - 4th
2003 - 25th - 4th
2002 - 26th - 4th
2001 - 20th - 3rd
2000 - 21st - 3rd

It was the 3rd pretty much every year until 1996. Since then it has been mostly the 4th except 1997, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2012.

I just want people to never mess with our traditions because they ARE very important just as our Maxims are important.

Tennessee traditions are some of the best in the country.

If we ever stopped running through the T then the AD should be fired BEFORE that ever happened and we run through the T anyway.

T for Tennessee and T for Traditions...Period!

VFL...GBO!!!

Yeah, the Maxims ain't working for us. No one on the current team knows what "oskie" means. Time to can the Maxims. Move the Florida game to Thanksgiving. Play Kentucky in September. And cancel the fricking series with Alabama. And would someone please darken that shade of orange we are using.

To actually answer the question it's what the SEC called a bridge schedule because of the other 2 teams joining conference. They are working this coming year to adjust the schedule for 2014 and beyond so they can try and get all the traditions to remain.

Basically the league is waiting on either adding 2 more teams to finalize the schedule or (more likely) see what the other conferences do once the playoff starts regarding 8 or 9 conference games. I think we eventually go to 9 conference games because the PAC12, bigXII and Big10 have. The ADs in the SEC don't want to give up the money of OOC home game but they are probably going to have to eventually.

2012 was just the 6th time it's been on the actual 3rd Saturday over the last 18 years.

And for those complaining about tradition, blame Phil Fulmer and your athletics department. The move became all but permanent for the better part of 2 decades because UT wanted bye weeks before Florida and Alabama.

The Big 10 decided not to go to nine.

If they play the game in November it will STILL BE the the 3rd Saturday in October. It doesn't matter what the date is.

'Bama complained a couple of years back about UT getting an open date the week before the "3rd Saturday in October." Therefore, there will be a game the week before. It is not a big deal.

Dang people. We can't even get along about the schedule. Can't we all just get along. I mean it's almost more than I can take.
