It's the same as last year. There were indicators in the early games that we had serious issues on defense, even before the injuries piled up, and the orange-glasses brigade threw out "we played vanilla on purpose" until there were enough injuries to trot out that excuse for the historically bad defensive performances at the end of the season.
Glad those indicators didn’t get in the way of the UF or UGA wins last year. Hope that’s the case again.

That I agree with... now if those indicators do not show up against Vandy and South Carolina, I will be even happier. :)

Our D-line is average at best and Barnett covered up for a lot last year.... JUMPER got exposed SOOO bad today as he could not contain the sweeps (he's just TOO SLOW) and CAN NOT get off blocks..........why in the HELL can't CBJ and staff see that.... Hell I rather have better athletes out there playing "see ball - get ball" rather than somebody that knows how to line people up......

This is one of the softest defenses in ut history . when you have your team too worried about injuries, you stop being physical and when you stop being physical you get injured . we are a long way off from defenses of the past. This team is terrified of injuries and it shows. Can't remember the last time we really popped someone . it was probably jennings on a kick off.

I believe opponents will keep gameplanning to exploit jumper, its easy to see he NEVER solo tackles anyone and is worse sideline to sideline than AJ(which was AJ weak spot).

Jumpers just infuriating sometimes. He gets STUCK ON BLOCKS, and SLIPPERY WHEN TACKLING. it's like a super hero from bizarro world that instantly transmogrifies into the exact opposite of whats useful with impeccably awful timing..."I'm falling off he empire state building, never fear, i shall transform my very atoms, in preparation of impact, here goes nothing, ah yes!.......Peanut Brittle?"

Jumper was the ONLY defensive player responsible for containing sweeps today vs Indiana State? To both sides? Where was the other linebacker, both DEs and the corners? Come on man, stop with "Colton Jumper is the problem to all our defensive woes" mess.

Our entire defense, with the exception of Taylor and Bituli, was awful vs an average GaTech team and today, they let a glorified high school team consistently block them and beat them to edge all day long. This isn't a Colton Jumper problem, it's a lot, and I do mean a lot bigger than just one player

I just don't see a physical attacking defense. Defense is about attitude. This team seems passive. Corners are just not physical enough.. No one is really. Maybe Shoop needs to come down out of that booth and get in someone's face every now and then.

We can look back through the threads and find the one that Hoke said we have a long way to go! That should tell us all we need to know.

Gaulden and Abernathy have looked like better corners than our corners. What are we saving Wiggins for he is a one year guy with three years experience.

Sorry if it's been posted and I missed it...concerning the D line playing off the LOS, has anyone asked in the post game interviews their theory behind this?

Shoop needs to go. Obviously we have talent on defense. but it is not getting coached up. Why is Todd Kelly Jr not starting?

I suppose Warrior and Abernathy have outplayed him? Regardless of who started, you were probably going to look at one of those three and ask why he isn’t starting.

There's always through the roof expectations as each season approaches. Nature of fans at UT. Reality sets in at various points during each season. Some see warning signs and some see just kinks being ironed out. Half full vs half empty. No right or wrong to either stance. Both have merit. Just a personality thing. Personally, I see it much like you. The same signs are there. Same concerns with the OL. Same concerns with lack of depth, youth and inexperience. Makes what Harbaugh is doing with that Michigan defense even more amazing.

I honestly think they were running on half a tank yesterday, which is fine for Indiana State. Hopefully a normal week of practice and rest will allow them to regroup, maybe fix some things and be revved up and ready to go against FL.
