We see problems with AOL a lot with our web site too. I work for
http://www.weathertap.com, which is a subscription based weather site. The data on our site updates constantly, much like the data on volnation. The problem we have found with AOL is they use proxy severs to serve out web pages. When someone requests a page through the AOL browser, it actually contacts an AOL proxy server. This proxy sever retrieves the page from the Internet, caches it, and then sends the page to the user requesting it. If someone else requests that same page a few minutes later, the proxy server serves out the cached page. This does speed up Internet access a little, but it also cause old pages to be served to users. This is especially true when the proxy sever does not update it's cache for a couple hours or more which we have seen from time to time. Since Vol Nation has been up and down a lot the past couple weeks, there is probably an AOL proxy server that has cached the page when it was down. It is serving this page out to certain users when they are requesting the page.
The only thing the user can do is contact AOL and tell the problem they are having. AOL does seem to correct these issues fairly quickly. The other thing they can do is use Internet Explorer to access the website, which should already be installed on their computer.
