Anyone have any updates on Jeremy Banks's status?

Hey Deer, I am wondering if you are working off of assumptions. Because others who are just as credible if not more so regarding players have said Banks will be on the team in August. Strikes me as funny that his name isn’t in the transfer portal yet if he knows he won’t be playing for Tennessee in August.

I'm working off of people in the program telling me they don't currently have a scholarship for him.

Remember, he also had two student-conduct policy violations which came to light after the arrest. One of those is what led to his dismissal from the team, not the traffic stop and fallout. The student conduct board has not met since students were sent home in March and will not reconvene until after the semester begins. Is it possible that the Dean of Students makes an exception and rules on the cases without the board? Maybe, but that would have the look of placing football success ahead of student safety and I'm not sure how that's going to fly in the current climate.

From a football standpoint, he had to resolve the student conduct board situation, then he had conditions that he had to follow to even be considered to be allowed to re-join the team, much like Jennings did two years ago. I don't know what they are, but they haven't all been met at this point. I'm not sure it's even possible for him to meet them with students not being allowed on campus. Will he get some relief on that? Possible, considering the COVID-19 situation, but I'm not sure the University will allow him to move past those conditions.

Finally, there is the numbers game with the scholarship situation. Right now, without Banks on the roster, Tennessee is either seven or eight scholarships over the limit (there's some conjecture on how one person is being counted) and they have to be under that by Aug. 1. If you take four walk-ons that got one-year deals, that's still at a minimum three cuts that have to be made. If Buchanan isn't cleared, he goes on a medical and that clears a spot, but you'll still have to cut two to get to the limit. SO if they want Banks back on top of everything else, they have to process another scholarship guy to do it.

To be clear, I want him back. Everyone around the program agrees that he has made positive changes in his life and is deserving of a second chance. I just don't see all three of the things above working out. Hope I'm wrong, but that's what I'm hearing.

Buchanan is back. Already made an appearance in V. Jones video. Definitely thought Banks would have been announced he was back by now...look forward to his return in the next few weeks.

Buchanan is working out, that never stopped, but has not been cleared for contact. If he's not cleared for contact, his career is over and he'll go on medical scholarship.
