My friend is flying from Knoxville up to Chicago on Wed..we are going to catch the Cubs/Brewers on Wed and Thursday. Then flying San Fran very early on Friday morning.

I have seen a few post from others going...anyone have certain places that they are meeting up Friday night or Saturday before/after kickoff?

Thanks

A number of VNers appear to be going. I'm staying in San Fran. I know it was discussed gathering at Lefty O Douls Friday night (I probably won't make this) and also getting together before the game at one of Berkeley's local watering holes (I would be able to do this).

There will be a meeting of VN members at Lefty O'Doul's in San Francisco Friday night.

Meeting in SF on Sat would avoid the crowds at the bars in Berkeley. There is also a shuttle from downtown berkeley bart to the game, though if you have the time walking through the campus is definetly worth it IMO. If you have some extra time go the Campanile in the middle of campus (can't miss it, it's the bell tower), pay the $5, and take the elevator to the top of the tower. One of the best views of the bay anywhere.

Droski, how crowded would you expect Pat O'Shea's to be on Saturday morning? I can't remember ever going there on a college football Saturday.

Not very busy i'd imagine. You might actually want to double check they open early. edit: actually i remember they serve a pretty good breakfast so no worries about being open early.

You know hat, now that I think about it, didn't pat oshea's go under? Have you been there recently? I moved from SF 4 years ago, but I remember a buddy mentioning this. I could be off base here. . .

Haven't been there since last fall. It appears it is in fact closed. Well, that's good to know.

Zeke's isn't bad though I've never eaten the food. http://zekesbar.com/

4th street bar is ok, but it's close to bart and have a lot of tvs
Fourth Street Bar and Deli - San Francisco, CA, 94103 - Citysearch

Royal Exchange would probably be pretty empty and has decent food / drink though it is a little on the pricey side. Don't remember how many tvs they have. IF you want to see some sec football the two above would definety be able to find it for you.
Royal Exchange
I always stop at Zeke's on the way to Giant games. I would highly recommend it.

:crossfingers: that teddy doesn't come dribble all over this thread as well... no offense teddy, sort of.

We're staying at Club Quarters in the financial district, very close to the Embarcadero BART station. Going to try to make the Lefty O'Douls gathering Friday night, we'll see. As for Saturday, I'm thinking I'll get up early and take the Mrs. the the wharf, union square, or something "touristy" of the like...?? The BART to Berkeley early enough for a brief campus tour (I'm an architecture geek), then food/libations/games at at least one of the following: Bear's Lair, Henry's, and/or Raleigh's; which from what I hear is the "to do" on gameday.

We could try to set something up at one of those three places if they sound good to you guys...??

Probably around 20-30 minutes (over a mile) depending on what route you take and how fast you walk. it is a bit uphill. Make sure to go through campus, that's the fastest way.

It's not a bad walk from Zeke's to the Powell Street BART.

no not at all. i've never been there on a sat, but since SF is mostly a NFL town, I imagine if you get there before noon you wont have a problem getting a larger table and a couple of tvs on whatever you want. You probably could call ahead and get one reserved too.

I'll be there. My fiance' and I are staying at the Harbour Court Hotel near the Embracadero. We plan on meeting up at Lefty's Fri. and taking the BART in on Sat. morning.

So, are we wearing orange to Lefty's?

Since the Giants aren't at home Saturday, I'd say tables will be really easy to come by.
