We've know from day one that our defense is mediocre (and that's being charitable), but look at our offense's second half production against Florida, Bama and South Carolina......only three points by the offense in six quarters. All of these games were still winnable in the second half.

The best way for a team to protect a weak defense is for their offense to maintain control. Too many three and outs. I still think we abandon the run too early. For example; the time we went for it on fourth and two in the second half and Ainge overthrew Jones, we had it third and two and the coaches had determined we would use two passing plays to pick it up. IMO we should have ran it both times. South Carolina's weakness was supposed to be against the run.

I still say we miss having a decent fullback to run in short yardage and occasionally pop a quick up the middle run. Also our play calling seems predicatable. If a play works once we usually keep going back to it over and over.

Our offense has struggled against every good defense it has faced this year. The playcalling at times during these games leaves one scratching their head. I don't get it it we seem to be in the wrong play most of the time. Whether it be run or pass. An yes if you want to play power football and grind it out a fullback would help that out i'd say.

I wonder if Ainge is fighting a shoulder injury or something similar...his throws the past 2 weeks haven't looked sharp and at times they just plain look like wounded ducks...last night he was not only off target, but off badly at times.

I agree, He looked way off last night, the worst I have seen him in a while.

Pinkygate is back i think. He was terribly off target at times. South carolina's defense is ranked number one against the pass though tough sledding.

this is from ESPN

Gameball goes to... Erik Ainge. The Vols quarterback gave Tennessee a 21-point cushion in the first half and finished with 216 yards and a TD on 26-of-44 passing.

Do they even watch the games???

Yes. Ainge and his young receivers need to take advantage of the ULL game to work out timing--get better for the SEC games.

The started the second half near the goal line, then three straight run plays, punt. The next series, I believe they got had 2-30 or something like that.

In college football it is amazing to see teams, they can struggle, not get a first down and then a couple of breaks or penalties opens up a drive and then they are hot the rest of the game. This is what happened to USC.'s offense to start the second half.

Or a team can be hot and then get a couple of 3rd and outs. The first series UT had it at the goal line and three straight runs. The next series UT started hard, got a penalty to make it 2nd and 30, got most of it back, but didn't make the first down. That chilled the offense and they played cold most of the night.
