Im starting to wonder if Hammy jumped the gun in his haste to nail down a new coach. CDD hasnt signed his contract and the hang up continues to be the buy out. Makes me wonder how committed our new coach is to staying on the Hill. Ive been a MH fan until now, but this is beginning to be a fiasco of the first magnitude.

Dooley's attorney wants huge buyout if he's fired and no buyout if he leaves on his own. Sounds fair.

No.

Who is going to be knocking at his door?

UAB? Florida A&M? ETSU if they decide to pick up football again?

I'd be disappointed if Dooley was spending any time at all thinking about his contract. He should have much bigger concerns right now.

For now it seems like the usual scenario. His agent (lawyer?) is trying to get as much as he can to make himself look better at his job and get some more cash. If we're still having this discussion come football season, maybe it'll be worth our concern.

Everything I've seen thus far tells me that Hamilton is not a great contract negotiator (Fulmer's last extension, Kiffin's buyout, even Pearl's raise during the Memphis coaching search is questionable). If you were Dooley's agent, wouldn't you go for the gold?

(Not my original idea) But it would be MUCH easier to hire a coach in april or may than in late Jan. The Kiff Stigma is gone and there would be many more applicants. MH has the leverage here if he knows how to use it. Like lftn said, who's knocking his door down? LaTech won't take him back. Advantage- TN

Probably not the best example if you're trying to allay concerns about commitment :p

It took him 11 months.

oh I knew the answer just thought it was relevant. I don't remember these freak out threads when he was just working under a memo

If someone else wants him after the end of this season, I'll have considered the hiring a much bigger success than I thought.

you have to take into account what has happened since CLK became our coach. How many major programs/SEC level have had a football head coach jump ship after one year? None that I can think of and that occurrence is bound to cause people (myself) to be antsy.

Isn't Dooley's agent Sexton?

What else would you expect?

I'm not antsy because I'm reminded of a line from a David Keith movie " I got nowhere else to go! I got nowhere else to go". He's either here or nowhere and pretty sure he knows it too

Sexton negotiating with Mike Hamilton? That's an unfair matchup. Hamilton will end up giving Sexton whatever he wants.

No worries here. CDD is here now, if he wants to leave in the future then he does. You cannot force him to stay. True, the money can be a deterrent and make it easier to leave if the buyout is lower. Most coaches go through this same process. I heard recently I think Saban had not signed his new contract either. I know he has been there and has a history of leaving but I think it is a common practice. CDD likely knows little to nothing about the contract negotations at this point. That is why he hired an agent to handle all that for him. The agent wants the best for their client (flexibility, money, etc) and the AD wants what's best for their school. Will UT get screwed again? Maybe, but worry about that when the time comes. I think this is the point where people worry about things before they happen. He will sign his contract at some point and I am sure the negotations will be fine. May not be perfect but if he really wants to leave anyway he is going to leave.

I'm not worried, as it was said, where would he go? No one else was beating down his door to hire him.

Hamilton is feeling the heat with this one. He can't make the buyout too small this time, but they seem to let Mikey do what he wants. So if he screws it up again he'll be forgiven, afterall he's a nice guy that has basically made a joke out of the football program.

If i'm not mistaken CDD's agent is Jimmy Sexton. He's a UT grad who represented Fulmer, Kiffin, Saban and many others. MH should have told CDD he would Not negoiate with Sexton

You would have to figure that Dooley is a southern guy and would likely stay in the South if he did have success and wanted to bolt. The obvious concerns being LSU and UGA, in that order. LSU fans were upset when we hired DD because they wanted him over Miles.

Whether this has come up or not, I don't know, but maybe Hammy could try and have a big buyout if he leaves for a certain school like LSU or UGA or Bama.

With that being said, Dooley doesn't strike me as the keep on moving to a different job type of a coach, but who knows, he could end up being that way.

Some of you guys are missing the point, its not about leaving now, but after a couple of years of success. Esp if UGA continues to trend down.
