Anyone else think Clay Travis is putting a bullseye on UT Football

Clay Travis thinks he is the Jim Rome of the east coast. He will do or say anything to make him get attention. Just a couple weeks ago he was making a big deal about the number of recruits Dooley had, saying he would rather have James Franklin for a head coach because he had more signees this early in the game. He want everone to know who he is no matter what he has to say or do, even if he had to throw his alma mater under the bus, so yes if he could put a bullseye on the BIG ORANGE he would.

He never went to UT. He went to George Washington University in DC for undergrad and got his law degree from Vandy. I have never heard him say one nice thing about the Vols and especially Dooley. In addition, he was an honorary official for Bama's Spring Game. The Dude just isnt really a Vol fan

We have our own little NCAA trouble already. After placing ourselves on 2 years probation, we better be squeeky clean anyway!

I have talked to Clay at length. He's playing all of you and doesn't take himself as seriously as you take him. I disagree with him about UT/Dooley hire, but so what. He's not trying to be Rome or Finebaum, and makes fun of himself as much as he does others. You guys are some thin skinned folk.

Clay is a huge Vol. He has bashed Dooley, but mostly because he thinks a program like Tennessee should have been able to do better. He defended Pearl for quite a while until that story turned sour.

It's true that he was an "official" at our spring game, but that was based on him asking, on air, to be one at Vandy's or UT's. Someone with ties to Bama heard his talk and got him an invite.

Agreed. Travis is a huge Vol fan, even wrote a book about Tennessee football ON Rocky Top: An End of an Era. He just has an odd way of conducting life

I know, it is called radio persona, and I for one do think he is trying to be a poor man's Rome. Give him time and he will be a poor man's Finebaum.

clay is obnoxious. he couldn't cut it as a lawyer, so he decided to be writer (and i admit, he is talented). he constantly goes around popping off about how awesome he is to anyone who will listen. he brags about being married to a former titans cheerleader and then turns around and hits on UT law students in knoxville. he runs his mouth about any and everything in order to get hits. yes, he is a vol fan, but he is an embarrassment. last month he was pitching a fit about vandy "outrecruiting" us. i spoke to him about it and he was completely ready to jump ship to vanderbilt. last week, i tried to talk to him about it again and he ignored EVERY recruit we landed. the dude is just an attention whore who will run his mouth about anything that gets him more publicity (lane kiffin, anyone?). it is what it is, though. i guess it helps him pay the bills.

If what he says about Bama is true about the jersey auto from players and suit sales to players: They might be in some major trouble.

I will give you that. He was questioning Dooley's recruiting, but to his defense so was 90% of VN. He was on in Bham and atleast here he didnt say he would rather have Franklin but that franklin was outrecruiting him. He had mentioned here that his choice if they were set on going with not alot of experience he would have gone with Gus Malzohn. I think he would also throw UT under the bus just like UT alumn Paul Finebaum does. Of course Finebaum just claim to be a full all out Vol fan either like Travis does.

Bad part is I date a lawyer. As long as they aren't Bart Durham I am sure they are ok IMO, dude seems like am ambulance chaser from way back

Plus our coach is also a former lawyer. Not all attorneys are bad. I have quite a few friends are lawyers. But there definately are some ******* ones out there too.

Exactly. He says stuff tongue and cheek and to piss people off. Its get people to read and listen to him. Dont have one problem with it at all. Most people with their own shows or articles do the same thing. Nobody wants to listen to or read boring. I have heard him say good things about UT, and he isnt sold on Dooley yet. But alot of posts on here and other sites are people questioning either his recruiting tactics or ability. Not to mention his ability to be a good coach here. Its truely not much different than whats is being said on here about Dooley.

another CT post where the majority of VN bashes him.

i've never had an issue with any of his stuff.

it's hilarious listening to those who say he isn't a Vol fan. do those of you who fit that description just cycle through pieces of his articles that can be construed in a nega-vol way? obviously, yes.

Rome is extremely arrogant. Finebaum is just a bitter man. I think it would be fun to eff around with people for a living too, which is something Clay does pretty well.
They have the highest rated sports talk show in the country for a reason. They get both markets: 1) the group of us that listen, laugh, don't take things so seriously and 2) the group that gets ticked off at the things he says and thinks he's 100% serious all the time. Btw, hate mail fridays is some of the best radio available.

I completely agree. He has a good gig going. Love him or hate him, but it works. Hate mail Friday.. that gets vicious!
