I was going to cry if they had let him stay! He should have been gone at least two years ago.

I did not cry. Did I feel kinda bad for him? No. I came to the conclusion long ago that his time had passed. What was done, well it had to be done. Debating whether it was done correctly can be argued forever. For me it was never nothing personal against him, it just came down to business. I remember well the Bill Battle days, the Majors firing, etc. Did I feel bitter when Majors was fired? No. Why? Firings are a nature of the beast. If a coach is lucky enough to be hired at any university, he better understand and accept the fact that he can be fired as well. Coaches, and the fans, should realize that coaching jobs are not appointments for life. College football in this day in age is a business. If you don't win, or if you regress, then your movin' on. We got over those humps in the days of Battle and Majors, and we will get over this.

Let me just say I am very said Fulmer is gone. Yes I know the past couple of years haven't been the greatest for the Vols but everyone goes through bad times. Was it right that we turned our backs on him instead of sticking it out???? Look at all the things he has done for our team. All the bowl games and pro players that have came from UT. Anyone who watched it on tv could see that this man did not want to leave or at least leave us in that way. I just want to say bye Coach Fulmer and you will be missed. No one can wear that orange sweater vest like Coach Fulmer. :cray:

It was sad to see the big guy cry like that. Like someone stated on here "its like telling your favorite uncle you don't wanna go fishing with him anymore." That being said Fulmer has gone a lil soft and too emotionally attached to the players and vica versa. Its good to be a mentor and friend but the conf was a little out of hand.

Good grief! teared up through the whole thing. Saddest thing ever! He loves the university that much...he is absolutely devastated and can't believe it is happening. My heart goes out to him. Hopefully he can deal with it and move on. From the look of it though, it is going to take a while. Very sad...a great and devoted man.

My mom who is 89 was watching the news with me when the presser was on. It was hard for me, but she, who knows nothing about Fulmer, TN football, or much of anything else at this point in her life, said, "Look at the poor man. What did he do? Oh my, he's really having a hard time, isn't he? I don't know what he did. What did he do? Why he can barely speak, he's so choked up. So now, what did he do? Oh that poor man...." I finally turned it off because it was affecting her too much.

I'm so thankful that I'll be there for the Kentucky game to say goodbye.

That was rough to watch, even though it needed to happen. Ugh. He is UT through and through.

Glad we made the change, and I'm excited to see Tennessee move forward and get back on the national map. I did shed some tears listening to the PC, it is a sad time and it was sad to see him go, but it's just been time.

Thanks again coach, and go vols!

If Coach Fulmer had put as much emotion into these games. Maybe these tears would not have been shed.

Look, the bashing days are behind us. The man was one of the greatest coaches in Tennessee history, and while yes, past his prime, still deserves respect. We can only hope our next coach wins as much as he did. I wanted Fulmer gone since '05 but it took longer. He loves UT to the core and gave his life to our football program. I don't expect you to french him, but give him respect these last few weeks.

I'll bet he put more into each of those games than you've ever put into anything. And yes, I will probably shed many tears before this ordeal is over. Weve never seen a coaching carousel at UT, but we will never see this type devotion again. And for any of you poor fans who have suffered so much because of the bad season, Fulmer has suffered over each loss much more than any of you.

I cried. Quite possibly the strangest sports day of my life. I was pleased, actually excited when I heard it had been made official that this would be his last year. Then when the reality set in, and you watch it sink in for him, it was just too much. He is just such a great guy who loves the university more than anyone else

My reaction exactly. I was at work and checked espn.com about 5 minutes after the news was posted. I was so excited that I could hardly concentrate. I left work real early (central time) to make it home to see the conference and everything changed. I definitely cried a little bit, it felt like I was watching Rudy. He's been the face of one of the things that I love for the large part of my life. It will be different to see the sideline without him, but it needed to happen just the same.

CPF showed us he is one of the best vol fans, he's bleeding orange now and has been for a while. . He just didn't know when to let his assisants go. I always thought he was a great guy, All we wonted was the program to get back on trac. KICK ALABAMA and Florida"s BUT.
I think he made a mistake with your OC. He is in over his head. We have all cried this whole year, six times on national TV. He should have gotten rid of the new oc weeks ago.
It's a terrible thing but it had to be done. I don't think CPF would ever quit tring. He is not one to give up or quit. he needs to be surounded by great assistants. He is a great recruter but he can't run the whole show.
I still get tears when reading these threads, I hurt for the guy and Tennessee Football. I hope Mike makes the right choice so we can all get back to enjoying Saturady's again real soon. And Coach Phil will stay around and help in a differant area of the game. We will never find a guy that is as committed to Tennessee football as he is. He is like my favorite uncle but he just wasn't getting the job done any more. I wish it was not the case but it's fact. I think he can be good for the furure of Tennessee football if he wonts to stay on in some form of recruting.
I saw a side to CP I never saw before. I see it was more than the money, he really loves Tennessee Football. Thanks Phil for the momeries I have a lot of good ones thanks to you. I hope we can move on quickly. But make the right turns along the way.

It felt odd. Kinda like finally chasing off the stray dog that's been hanging around the house for a week or so... You want it gone but still set food out.

i'm only 22 years old (soon to be 23) and don't remember much of majors. the only coach i've known was fulmer and it was sad to see someone that has so much love for the university have that taken away from them. i agree vols needed a change. looking forward to see who we get. GO VOLS!
