I did get a little teary eyed. I was really questioning the call, but I know its for the best.

I did once or twice!:cray:

yes, almost man......saddest sh..t i've seen in a long time......loved Fulmer like an uncle..........he just wasn't getting the job done, and I cna't understand why, since he's a former OL and OC.........

I'm really surprised that they didnt' throw Clawson under the bus after the Alabama game, that would've been alot smarter........I truly believe that hiring him was Fulmer's cryptonite, Clawson as a former DB and head coach for a division joke of a school, was WAY out of his league here, period...........

bye Coach, you will be missed.........a truly sad day for all of us true VOL fans.........

Yeah..I too got somewhat choked up..It was very difficult to listen to the coach with so much emotion in his voice.
I felt his pain but time will heal the wound and it is for the betterment of the program IMO.

Today has been one of the more emotional days in my sports life. Clearly it was past time for this decision to have been made, but 17 years is a long time and considering the amount of time he's been at Tennessee as a whole, that's a lifetime for some. There are millions of fans that haven't been around as long as he has. Plenty of which continue to badmouth him throughout the country.

It's bittersweet. He's outlived his duties as a head coach and wasn't perfect by any means, but you have to appreciate him and what he's been to the program.

this is a sad day for all tennessee vol fans. he was those kids father, mothers, and he groomed them well in to men. Phil is a great man. he will be missed. But the program needs a change. And i think htis was the right time for that so everyone could show fulmer respect and support for all he has done for tennessee the lat to home games.

I agree with that assessment. Clawson turned out to be awful.

I'll certainly miss coach Fulmer. He has certainly brought lots of big wins here despite what has happened this year. I don't know that the run they had in the 90's will ever be surpassed here.

It's always tough to see a man get fired that bleeds orange to the core, but time for change was needed and probably past due. Good luck to him and hope he could at least stick around in some kind of administrative duty like say................head of recruiting?!

i was just about to post that no one takes this more to heart than he does. he is TENNESSEE and he represents the university and our football program. i praised his name and cursed it but sad to see that today.. hey, maybe he'll join the board this spring and start bad mouthing all of us. :)

sidenote, i am really suprised clawson wasn't demoted at least. then again, they hired him. I mean he's a yankee! that coached in the patriot league. I don't even know what that is!

such a truly f'ed up year.

Gut wrenching, I hate to beat a old horse but they gave Bowden and Paterno time....Coach Fulmer was worth another year..

I, as much as the next guy agrees its time for a change in the direction of our football program, but I couldnt help getting a little choked up myself seeing Fulmer at the press conference today fight back emotions that epitimize what it means to be a true Volunteer. I'm not going to sit here and say we made a bad decision because I believe new blood is needed to take this team and the program to the next level, but I felt a little of what this job meant to him watching him today. He lead us to some of the great highs of Tennessee football and I hope he can be remembered for that. He has given his all for the program over the years and I truely thank him for that although it did not show up in the W column as of late. I think overall the right decision was made but I know it must be tough for him after all these years having to step away from something he devoted his life towards. I sincerely hope he finds success is his future endevors and continues in the spirit that defines Tennessee pride and loyalty. I know everyone that watched it today saw in that man the heart of a Voluteer.

yes I did...and as bad as I felt yesterday afternoon, I woke up this morning excited, and at the same time, anxious for the future.

Honestly, I don't know if it's that he was "out of his league." His problem may have been an inability to adapt to a different kind of football player.

I heard his offense was very complex and he may have tried to cram too much on the kids too fast.

They had to learn a totally new offense and he may not have been able to teach them effectively enough. Is that being "out of his league?"

I'm not so sure. Guess we'll never know.

I hope the guy lands on his feet and resumes his career and does well. This whole thing was hard on everyone involved.

I thought he would come to press conference pissed off, but from the very first sentence, seeing him hold back tears, got me in tears. It was sad.
