I am leaving about 11 am and will return home after the game. I live in Knoxville.

Anyone else doing this and not spending the night in the area?

This will be one looooong day!

It would be cheaper for sure to do a hit and run for the game. I figure it will be crazy after the game being NYE and all and didn't want to fight the crowd/traffic/mess trying to get back out of there that night.

By the time the game is over most going to NYE parties will be where they are going. I don't think traffic will be much of a problem. Get out of ATL and back on 75 and it should be smooth sailing.

Game will be over around 11. If I can get on the road and headed home by 12 or 12:30, I should be home around 3:30 or 4 and get to sleep in my own bed.

I am not a drinker (1 or 2 is my limit when I do) so that will make things much easier. Don't get me wrong, I love the taste of beer. I just choose not to drink much anymore.

Im going, but we are staying the night.

Going with my friend who is a VT fan. If we lose, someone may get "forgotten" at a gas station. But, I am making him sit on the Big Orange side. Hehe

I almost decided to go watch the Vols in ATL, then head down to Jacksonville to watch WVU in the Gator Bowl on the 1st, but that would be a long hard trip!! New Years in Buckhead after the game, then getting to the Gator by a 1pm kickoff when it's about a 5 hour drive from atl, then a 12 hour drive back home to WV!! Not so sure I can handle trips like that anymore!!

I will be driving down and back in one day also. It will be pretty late getting back depending on how long it takes to get out of Atlanta. It's about 4 more hours on the road after that feat is accomplished.

Its only about a 2 hours drive to ATL from where I live, so it will be a day trip.

For any of you driving in and going back, park at the farthest MARTA station you can, take MARTA to the stadium. Then it will put you outside the heavy traffic areas for a easier return.

We aren't staying the night. We both work half a day so we'll leave Chattanooga between 1-2pm. Then drive back after the game.

To all those doing a 1 day trip, be careful on the road. Between the police monitoring speed limits on the interstates and people getting behind the wheel after drinking could result in an unhappy experience for the Vol faithful on the road.

It would definitely be safer to spend the night just outside of Atlanta. I'm headed down with some buddies and we're high-tailing it out after the Vols win (hopefully) because New Years Eve in Atlanta is CRAZY. I'd rather just enjoy the game and chill at the hotel afterwards, away from the craziness.

Just doing a day trip as well... leaving around 10:00 that am and driving home after game; looking forward to having a blast!

I suggest the North Springs station. It is the farthest from the dome, and it is one of the safest platforms

Awesome. :dance2: Hopefully even better celebrating a Vol victory in the streets.

Headed over from Oxford, Al. on a day trip with my wife and 4 year old. GO VOLS!!

Really don't want to get them on the Marta would like to get to my car as quick as possible. Just a country guy and I hate the city, would this be too difficult with all the traffic?

I'm staying. No way I'm gonna drive that late on NYE night after spending all day in ATL. Suicide...

Yep, I am doing the same thing. I actually take 75, 575, then highway 5. I live about 45 minutes from the Georgia state line.

I'm headed down on Wednesday morning and back to Knoxville on Friday afternoon. I'll probably spend a lot of time at ESPN Zone in Buckhead.
