Butch added a couple of stud recruiters in Thigpen and Martinez. He kept a solid VFL in JG. Perhaps the most important thing he did, however, was bring his crew with him. He could have gone the hot sauce route and hired "name" guys with SEC experience, but he didn't and I applaud that. I think staff cohesion is often overlooked and undervalued. I also believe that staff dysfunction is underrated in the Doolander's downfall. As each day turns to the next I am more and more impressed with Butch's decision making.

PS, I will be at the recruiting celebration/breakfast in Memphis if any of you guys are going to be there. I will be at the Hilton the night before as well and would love to meet any of you guys.

Like others have stated again and again, with each passing day I am getting more and more excited about our future with CBJ

Still taking a wait and see approach. They seem to be working very hard on recruiting. The best person to ask to compare would be Jay Graham. Doubt he would do that though.

Still a little skeptical. My opinion may change if they reel in 2 of either Bell, Lawson or Green. :good!:

This is my take as well. I wasn't sold on the hire to start with like many, but I have warmed up to it and his staff with everything that has been coming out during the recruiting. He's all in as is his staff, which is more than we could really say about Dooley and company.

I don't think it's possible to find fault in a staff that is showing daily dedication, creative recruiting, and is clearly energized and very excited to be at Tennessee. I know there is coach speak and fluff abound but if the positive comments from HS coaches, parents, and recruits are any indication of the impression that this staff is making, then I think we are fortunate to have them! It will most likely be a frustrating next season as the pieces of the puzzle fall into place but I am anxious to see what this group of guys can get done!

I hope CBJ and staff have sent prospect sheets to all the HS coaches, that's something the previous staff failed to do. The PS is an important link in establishing relationships with players and coaches.

Sorry fellow Vol fans but I have been absent from posting for quite a while (teaching and coaching is very time consuming) but I have kept up on here by reading occassionally when I get the chance.

As far as CBJ and his staff go, I echo that of those posters who weren't exactly thrilled with the hire at first, but now am completely sold on them all.

I was getting excited about the possibility of having Charlie Strong, and that all failed and along came Butch. I definitely wasn't thrilled but after he kept Jay Graham and tried to go get Tee Martin I warmed up a little bit. Then I saw how relentless he and his staff have been recruiting and I am just fired up! I hope we land some of these targets we are going after...that would be icing on the cake.

I also like how all of the coaches have taken to Twitter and made their Twitter names similar. I like everything he is doing and I am completely on board with this guy. Now I just hope that he can produce positive results and get us back to the top!!!

GO VOLS!!!

My initial reaction to his hiring was not good. But the more I learned about him the more excited I became. He has impressed from the moment he stepped on the campus in the way he is handling recruiting and former players.

You make a good point about staff cohesion. Dooley clearly did not have that and it showed by the mass exodus before last season. I'm very excited about the coaching staff so far.

However, I was also excited about Dooley in the beginning as many of us were. I'm cautiously optimistic but I'm withholding any judgement whatsoever until we see the product he puts on the field. But, he is off to a running start. :dance2:

I too, will take the wait and see approach. I remember how we were excited about Kiffin and his rock-star staff and his rock star recruiting. We had a former NFL defensive Co ordinator and we also signed the #1 recruit in the nation. We were excited.

Hell, we might even beat Alabama & Florida in our first season.

Now, CBJ is saying all of the right things to be endearing to the fans but let's see if we can win on the field.

After NSD, I can make a judgement about the staff's ability to recruit. In December of 2013, I'll be able to judge how well they can coach. Until then, Not much else matters.

At first I was a surprised how little interaction the previous staff had with the HS coaches, but then look at the results, and it's not so surprising. CBJ and staff are connecting with the HS coaches based on several reports and comments of HS coaches I've read. Some with highly ranked prospects said they'd never see a previous staff coach ever at their school. Step one in recruiting is getting a relationship with HS coaches. Time will tell, but I really like the effort they've been giving.

Don't know if you should use the words "stud" and "Martinez" in the same sentence. His best friend (Mark Richt) had to fire him at UGA. Anyway, best of luck!

Not happy at all with Jancek and Martinez. But I just want to win some ball games.

Edit: BTW, 4 coaches have pretty significant SEC experience.
