Get ticked off when they go to the NCAA website and see it's all about the men's tournament, but then in the little right hand corner you can click on the Women's Tournament?

I have complained to the AJC numerous times because they also seem to ASSume that the NCAA Tournament means the MEN'S Tournament.

If I want to see men crashing about, I can watch wrestling. If I want to see a game played with finesse, I watch the women's basketball game.

And just try to get a women's bracket.

Outside of perhaps a half dozen enclaves around the country nobody cares about Women's basketball, and the media provides information that their overall readership wants.

The medai doesn't fall under the title IX constraints... Thats all.

+++++++

Ratings rise for NCAA women's tournament 46% from last year reports: ...The NCAA women’s basketball tournament has been working out well so far for ESPN, with first and second-round regional and national coverage from last weekend drawing an average of 343,000 viewers. That’s a rise of 46 percent from last year

though under the men's numbers, there is a definite rise in viewership

When women spend the same on women's sports as the men spend on men's sports I'm sure the NCAA, ESPN, CBS and all the other male dominated, women hating, discriminatory entities will jump on the women's sports bandwagon. Unfortunately, women spend their mad money on other things and in sports it's all about the money.

As things are now most women could care less about sports and if it weren't for male support the situation would be really grim.

The NCAA, because they don't get a cut of football television, relies almost solely on the Men's Tourney for it's money. Without it there literally would be no NCAA.

No one should be surprised how women's basketball is treated. A lot of "real" men still think women should be barefoot, pregnant, cleaning and cooking meals. This also includes some women that do not support their own women athletics. I remember how it was when I went from coaching boys sports to girl sports. The girls budget was nothing like the boys. I raised the money for equipment and was chided for buying equipment for my girls that was much better than the boys. There were complaints by the AD but since it did not cost the school and the school had a strong parent group he had to duck it up and deal with it.

I support women's sports fully and do not understand why information on women's sport is so difficult to find in the Media, especially on the NCAA site. To me when the NCAA fails to give the women equal representation that should be a Title 9 violation. The women's game, volleyball, softball, soccer, Basketball, etc., are beautiful to watch and coach. However, to enjoy women's sports you have to view them with an open mind, there just too many that do not possess such minds.

I am just the opposite. If I want to see athletes run and jump, I watch the men's game. If I want to watch players jump 3 inches off the floor and hit the bottom of the backboard shooting layups, I watch the women's game. JMO but to me there are not enough athletes in women's BB to have 10 on the floor at the same time. That's why UConn dominates. Now women's softball is very interesting for me to watch.
Maybe I just never watched enough. I tried watching UT several times a few years ago, just couldn't get excited about it.

UConn took the fun out of it - everyone knows they will win it - so nobody cares

I have been reading all the articles this week about how UConn's excellence is bad for women's basketball. Apparently a lot of WCBB fans would rather see two crappy teams shoot in the 30% range, turn the ball over 25 time each, commit 25 fouls each, and have 5 or 6 assists for the entire game with a final score of 43-42 as long as one team scores the winning basket at the buzzer. I would rather watch athletes pursue perfection and watch for the beauty of the sport instead of the competitive nature of the game or the score.

I never liked golf, but I watched Tiger Woods on Sundays when he was doing things no other golfer could do (before the world knew he was a pig). I also enjoyed watching Steffi Graf in her prime, the Spanish National Soccer team with their passing skills, and Torvill and Dean when they were destroying all takers on the ice. I have respect for anyone who makes it their mission to be the best they can be, whether it be in sports or any other aspect of their life.

But for those who worship mediocrity, here are two options:

1. Rather than have an NCAA tournament, why not just give everyone a participation trophy at the end of the regular season so there are no losers and no one suffers low self-esteem.

2. Have a tournament but do not keep score in the game. Each team is required to give every player on the bench equal playing time. At the end of the game, flip a coin to determine which team moves on to the next round. This way everyone has an equal opportunity at being a national champion.

Are we really becoming a society where we resent and punish success, and we reward and compensate people for their failures?

I do a little tally every time I search for a school's WCBB page in google by typing for example Tennessee basketball - the schools the bring up both a link to the men's site and the women's site get a little gold star in my mental notebook.
Congratulations to TN - you pass the test with flying colors! Most others do not.

That's why what Geno's doing right now, though it may be painful, it is promoting what women's basketball is "growing towards".

I predict that if UCONN does make it, it will be the most watched women's finals ever.

Think about it this way... If ALL of the top 25 teams, each played this style and level of basketball.... Would it be boring then?

Geno is just ahead of his time.
This is historic.

He deserves to be a little arrogant. He has significantly changed the game and raised the bar.

And, If that bar gets reached, or better yet, raised again by another team... All women's BB benefits.

If you want to beat the best, you have to play like the best. Genno has taken the game to the next level. Those complaining about his coaching and saying he is ruining the women's college BB game are only complaining because they are not willing to, or can't coach at Genno's level. Pat changed the game and everyone had to change, well guess what, Genno has again changed the game. Figure it out or quit complaining. It is not like he has all the great high school players, the fact is he coaches his players up to their potential and some beyond. Duke is a prime example of a women's basketball team that recruit top women high school player but always fall short. You can't just recruit 5 stars and role the ball accross the floor and you suddenly have a great team. His players always play at a high motor from end to end.

After Stewart, Tuck, and Jefferson graduate this year, UConn will be at the same level as everyone else. Unfortunately, their level will drop instead of everyone else raising the level of their play.

Katy Lou Samuelson is just 2 inches shorter and arguably further along than Breanna was as a freshman.

Samuelson does not have Breanna's ridiculous athleticism or defensive abilities. She's closer to Ann Strother than Breanna in terms of overall abilities.

UConn will be weaker, but they still have a solid team returning: Samuelson, Nurse, Collier, and Williams will provide a strong core, plus the addition of Dangerfield. Easily a top 8 team. If Tuck opts to return, they should be a top 3 team.

Heard the same thing when Maya Moore left, also other UCONN players. Still think Geno is a miserable human, but he can flat coach the game. :whistling:
