Anybody interested in pitching in for a full page ad in the KNS?

What's the cost of a billboard? Not advocating it necessarily, just pointing out it may be more bang for the communication buck. More readers over a longer period of time. Plus it would trump the approach of your opposition (again, staying neutral here) used last year. Of course you'd need to shorten up that first draft there a bunch and get to the point with much fewer (and larger) words.

While a billboard would reach more people, I think it would cost WAY more. Plus, a newspaper ad would be received as more serious than a billboard. People would drive past a billboard and say "F'ing A" and not think another thought about it, but a full page ad would provoke real thought and reflection. My $0.02 at least.

I would give Osama bin Laden $10k if it would get Tennessee a new coach.

Folks, although his choice of words aren't very tasteful or classy and come off as being disrespectful in the least of measures, his intentions are very clear in that it looks like nothing in this world seems to render a need for a new coach at UT in Mike Hamilton's eyes. It is pathetic that our AD has allowed the situation to come to this and provoke our fans into saying something like this. We should be fighting to get a new AD as well.

Ok, here's a quick go at a draft, done in a compliment-sandwich fashion (not really wordsmithed at all):

Dear Coach Fulmer:

We would like to express our deepest appreciation for the total commitment you have given to the University of Tennessee. You have built the football program into a national power, won the school's first national championship in football in almost 50 years, and compiled a record that speaks for itself. Your place is secure as a legend in the history of the Volunteers.

However, given the direction of the program and the performance of the team over the last few years, we feel that it would be in the best interest of our great University if you would hand over the reins to a new leader who, while certainly not able to fill your shoes, will guide the program into a new era of success and a restoration of the pride that comes with Tennessee's winning tradition.

While your overall record and accomplishments during your tenure and Tennessee are outstanding by any measure, the trend of the recent four years indicates that Tennessee is on the wrong path. Since 2005, Tennessee is 14-14 against SEC opponents (.500), 6-13 against AP Top 25 opponents (.316), 3-9 against AP Top 10 opponents (.250), and 1-5 in games against the AP Top 5 (.167). We're certain that this is not what faithful Volunteer fans accept as success, and we hope that these marks fall well below the expectations you place on yourself as coach.

While winning is the most popular measure of a team's success, it certainly isn't the only indicator of the quality of leadership of the program. In recent years, offenses committed by Tennessee football players, who are some of the most visible representatives of the University, have tarnished the reputation of our fine school. These incidents have been occurring at a rate that far exceeds other programs of comparable stature and tradition. Certainly this has resulted in an unfavorable reputation for our program and a negative message about the caliber of young men we want at the University of Tennessee.

Coach Fulmer, we are not questioning your achievements as a coach. We are not questioning your commitment to the University of Tennessee. And we are certainly not questioning your character as a man. What we are asking is that you take an objective look at the direction of this program in recent years and realize that it is time for someone new to take the wheel and steer the Volunteers back onto the path toward pride, tradition, and excellence.

Respectfully,

The Undersigned

Do you write strongly worded letter for the United Nations? :salute:

Just me being me and VolFan1978, that's a beautifully written letter, but an ad that said:

Hamilton:

It's Time.

-The Undersigned

....you must get a John Hancock. Someone with a big name to sign that beast huge.

Would they even publish that?

Most newspapers will publish about anything for advertising revenue, it's just got to be classy and not be vulgar in any way.

I'd make sure to get a copy of KNS advertising policies to make sure before you get too far into it though.

Or just call them up. I'm sure if you had 10K in hand, account, whichever....AKA ready for KNS to take off your hands, you'll be able to talk to someone about it and let them point you the right way.

I've drawn up a rough idea of what the page could look like. I couldnt get it on here but I believe I can get it onto my profile. It is a watermark of Phil with the text from Volfan1978 on top of it. Take a look and let me know what you think. If anyone would like to modify it let me know and I'll e-mail it to you. LETS GET THIS DONE

we need to find 200 people willing to give $50 before we work up a draft. I would contribute, but i am a broke college student.

I can't figure out how to do it. Its in .doc format and it needs to be .gif, or .jpeg Send me a message with your e-mail if you think you can help get it up here.

Guys, we've got to make this happen. In this world of college football being run by big-money boosters, a grassroots effort by ordinary fans would capture the attention of the nation. I can already see the text of the link on ESPN.com's front page--"Tennessee Fans Call for Change". I really believe that the buzz generated by such an ad would provoke some sort of response.

Philosophically, I think the letter should be addressed to CPF instead of Hamilton. Hamilton has already proven derilict in his duties by not only refusing to take corrective action but instead giving Fulmer raises and extensions. Hamilton is chicken feces, there's no chance he'll step up to the plate. Instead, our best hope is for Fulmer to take a look in the mirror and step aside on his own terms.

I am up in the air about this ad. I think that John Pennington's article really pissed a lot of people off last year even though it was 100% accurate.

Considering the demographic, I think that this could be a counterproductive measure.
