Just who are we missing out on b/c of Cody Blanc or Tino Thomas? Which elite recruit has us at #1 but we are turning them away due to scholly numbers game?

If it came down to Jelks or Blanc, I'm taking Jelks all day.

Dumb question, IMO. Why would you want to turn him away? Depth is definitely not the answer. And, I bet you can't make a claim about his potential either. Kid could be good.

The star gazers are out in full force today.

Not a stargazer. Its just the truth, we need as much elite talent as we can get right now. If not, Tino then go with the Saban method and cut some of the less talented players currently on scholarship. I dont care what it is as long as the numbers work out. Id like to keep Tino, I think he's gonna be a good player for us. I just dont know whether he'll immediately contribute or not though. He has stayed a Vol this long though and for that, I think the kid deserves to stay here. That is one thing about him I like most, is that he seems like he really wants to be here. And I agree that we do need more players that are true VFL's too.

I really don't want us to get into a situation like Les Miles, Steve Spurrier, and Jimbo Fisher. They consistantly over sign kids in their recruiting class, and drop the lesser "star" kids to make room for the next class instead of developing them. Let's keep what we got and develop them into elite talent for the NFL.

If we're going to give a kid a committable offer, I'd sure hope we wouldn't be the type of squad that dumps them because a guy rated 'better' wants to join the party late.

+1.....if Dooley did that to anyone I would be calling for his dismissal. But I dont have to worry about that because Dooley would never do that.

And would that not be two-faced? Some complain when a player changes his mind and then signs with a different school and says he should honor his comittment....but then you think we should jerk a players scholarship from him to get what might be a better player? Does not sound like good business to me.

Now is that ^^^^ not the truth!! So many times I have read on here what an a**clown a commit is when he decommits and goes elsewhere. Our coaching staff would be in the same formation with them if they did it to a recruit. I will let the ones who get paid the big bucks make the decisions. Our coaches are selling a program based on character, integrity, honor, and respect. These are things the parents want to hear and will start guiding their kids toward. Once this staff starts getting the wins and personnel are drafted into the NFL, the elite will come. The foundation has to be built first and that is done with quality players. I myself would give my all to a program if they stood up for and by me. Seen it too many times from kids with bad character that we actually gave a chance to in the military and turned out to be go to guys when the real bullets started flying.

GO VOLS!!!!!!

I like him, but I doubt he would make an immediate impact anyways. There is alot of elite talent we're still in on, and that would open up one more valuable spot for this class. If we keep him ill still be happy, but its just something to take into consideration.

*Mods edit title please, meant to say anybody else think it would be smart to release Tino Thomas?

No. Can you imagine what kind of negative recruiting this would open us up to? Not only that, it would make Dooley look like a complete hypocrite after all the emphasis he has put on character. I don't care if it's for the #1 guy in the country, asking TT to move on could negatively impact us for years to come. No way will this happen, nor should it.

Jelks isn't worth the negative impact that would have on our program. I'm not saying he's a bad player or that Blanc is better, but at this point, you've already accepted Blanc's commitment. To yank his scholly would only make us look bad. That could potentially cost us an even better recruit down the road. It's not worth it.

I actually have come to realize that it was not a smart decision to put Tino up in this discussion. If it were up to me, I would tell Blanc to look elsewhere to open up another spot. I think that would be the best thing to do. He's a good player, has good speed, and has some solid offers, but ill take an elite player over just a local talent any day.

It is simply amazing how so many buffoons on here always want to dump some kids whom we have accepted into the program with open arms just because they think our coaches have not got a handle on our recruiting and need their help to work everything out.

First, there are things in this life that are right and other things that are wrong. You do the things that are right simply because they are right. You avoid doing things that are wrong simply because they are wrong -- supposedly these are the values we are trying to teach in the VFL program. Dumping kids that we have agreed to accept into our program falls into the category of things that are wrong. Dooley was wrong last year when he let two kids go elsewhere, and I think it was a learning experience for him -- at least I hope so.

I was not a big fan of Tino last year during recruiting but Dooley liked him enough to take him into the class on NSD. That was good enough for me and I strongly oppose anyone who wants to dump him. The same goes for Cody (who scored something like 5 touchdowns tonight). Not my favorite, but Dooley and the staff hooked him up with us so that is good enough for me.

Some of you armchair generals get back to us after you have earned your stripes as a head coach in a top tier SEC program. Then perhaps you might earn enough respect so that we might listen to your "wisdom".

Tino is a VOl. He sat out this season at our request and no one but an amoral fool would want to drop him now.

You guys are liable to be angry then because OCI's post clearly said we would make room.

Im not saying that, im just saying if it comes down to that point as it gets later on in the recruiting game, would it be a good idea to drop a Thomas or Blanc? Im just saying id rather have someone who will make an immediate impact than to have someone who will need to develop. I like every player currently committed to this team and staff, but if it comes down to getting one more elite player than yes id drop one of them. But if it doesnt happen, ill still be happy cause this staff has done an incredible job as it is in recruiting so far this year.

If you truly believe this ... then just RELAX and let the coaches recruit who THEY think will best help our team.

Go Vols !!!

I admit, I need to eat some crow right now. I was wrong. CB's were burned all night, but that doesnt hid the fact that we were out coached on both sides of the ball. Terrible display of Tennessee football tonight. I know we're young, but that was ridiculous.
