Anybody else take a VolNation Vacation?

I swore after the game that I would not look at VolNation at least until Tuesday. I think the game was a perfect storm of momentum killing screw-ups and just plain overconfidence. Bad, but nothing worth jumping off a ledge over.

Still, I did sneak a peak or two, tossed in a throw away comment, saw all the crap and retreated within about two minutes.

Life is too short to get as spun up as so many on here do. All the over-reactive angst, the downright hate and so much plain old ignorance. It really does get kinda depressing.

So now I will retreat again. Go Vols! (I do believe the real Vols will show up Saturday.)

I find that liquor helps immensely.

I love reading the mess that results from a close game.

Self-righteousness

Self-righteousness (also called sanctimoniousness, sententiousness, and holier-than-thou attitudes) is a feeling or display of (usually smug) moral superiority derived from a sense that one's beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue than those of the average person. Self-righteous individuals are often intolerant of the opinions and behaviors of others

de·fen′sive·ness n.
Constantly protecting oneself from criticism, exposure of one's shortcomings, or other real or perceived threats to the ego.

I do, frequently. I've found that I either feel bad for the team when everything didn't go exactly as it should have and want to avoid the Legions of the Miserable eviscerating and excoriating the team/coaches/fans/etc, or I feel good for the team after an expected or unexpected victory but still want to avoid the Legions of the Miserable eviscerating and excoriating the team/coaches/fans/etc.

It's important to discuss the good and the bad; I'm not saying the eternal sunshine pumpers have it right. But after giving my all (and my left knee) for four years as part of the Gameday experience (POTS F95-S99) it churns my stomach that what is supposed to be a coming together and celebration of our fandom causes people to speak and behave in ways that make us look like knuckle-dragging zealots. I actually worry for some people's psychological well being and ability to maintain a job or relationship seeing the way they discuss things on here.

Plus, working on my doctorate is sucking my time dry. Not even enough time to read, much less post.

I pretty much took one most of summer. This place just gets damn whacked out in the off season.

In hindsight I think I came back a week too early? Oh well too late now

Yeah after the bowl game I stopped coming until last week, now I'm debating on another vacay as well.

An exclamation used after a brilliant comeback, that is incapable of being topped.
