We've been hearing rumblings all year long. Is our staff going to be completely different? I've never seen it this quiet.

I'm concerned that Butch has openly engaged the OC search, but we have not heard anything about DB or OL replacements. I understand with DeBord leaving and it being public knowledge there was no way to hide it. I just do not understand the wait and why it would be important to wait until after NSD on those replacements. It makes me think there will not be a change made. If Butch examines our program and he cannot see that we need help in the DB and OL departments then he has bigger problems.

I think replacing them would only enhance our recruiting, not hurt it. I believe any recruits on the fence or considering flipping want to know who their position coach will be, especially if they have the feeling that their current position coach will be fired. If we drag it out and they feel uncertain then I would not be surprised to see numerous commits flip on NSD. We need to hire upgrades now and finish this class strong.

It's just a messy situation when we have no AD, a head coach on the hot seat, and rumors all over the place with staff changes. What undecided or wavering recruits are going to want to sign up for that? I hope we have some movement after the AFCA Conference this weekend.

I dont think your going to see much change. Im really cant think of anything that needs to change. I said all along that the Debord wasnt getting fired. The only way we lose him was if he retires but I think being able to work close to his family was an opportunity he couldn't refuse. I believe the New strength coach is to help solve some of the O line and D tackle physicality problems. Even Nick Saban has said the strength coach is the most important coach the staff and we just went the entire season without that. I believe Butch is banking on that. And as far as defense and people that say Shoop needs his own guys. He should be fine with the coaches we have. The previous D coordinator didnt have a problem producing a top 30 defense with them. If Shoop is the defense coach he's supposed to be then he shouldn't need anybody else. I am of the personal opinión that the injuries equated to guys having to play to many snaps towards the end of the year and the some of those weren't 100%. Which I believe is a big reason why I thought the defense looked better during the bowl game. Finally guys got rested and couple guys we needed got back to 100%. Just my Thoughts. Im sure most will disagree. Just remember if all of you had the opportunity to be the coach you would do it how you believed was and everybody would bash you for coaching hires and all your decisions. Let the man lead the way he feels is right. Its his job. I love to win but I will also let the people in charge do there job until the next guy and do the same for them. GO VOLS!

You're just too rational 6! Lol but you have to at least agree we need an upgrade at Defensive Backs. Our DBs have not developed and they are playing poor fundamental football. They never turn their heads around to look for the ball or put themselves in a position to make a play. They honestly look like they are lost out there and are not schematically sound. When I see an opposing QB throw a deep ball with one-on-one coverage I know it's almost certainly going to be pass interference or a completion.

Folks don't seem to realize that these days all talk is good talk, all advertising is good advertising!!! All the coaching changes will be done by the end of the month, meanwhile the program is getting a lot of press. Splash or no splash hire won't matter. Folks are paying attention AND THAT IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS!

It might be good for business (profit), but does that translate to success on the field?

And you are right that Tennessee has been in the press lately, but I do not know if it is such a good thing when everybody is laughing at us for being "Champions of Life" or calling our head coach a gym teacher.

I bet we don't hear anything about Martinez or Mahoney until they've at least had a shot to find other opportunities at the coach's convention this weekend in order to avoid having "fired" on their resumes.

If Larry Scott becomes OC and we get a QB coach come aboard whose resume demands a co-OC or passing coordinator title, I wonder if Azzani gets pissed enough to jump on the first opportunity to get out.

Lots of smoke earlier around Stripling taking a different role within the program.

I think it was Hubbs or someone else in the media that suggested if Thigpen got a good enough opportunity to go elsewhere, UT was unlikely to get into any kind of bidding war to keep him.

Gillespie will have other opportunities, I just hope we do what it takes to keep him.

Us old folks like to poke fun at stuff clearly out of our generation (I am old at 47) but don't you think Butch and company are spinning the "champions for life" stuff to the kids? Ex. Barnett, Malone, Kamara, Dobbs signing NFL contracts. The line will be, Big hearted and getin started at the University of Tennessee, CHAMPIONS FOR LIFE" This corny stuff works whether we like it or not!

We will have a new coach or two. There are many different philosophies that work in schemes and some in technique. The gears in a transmission have to match per say, what works in a sports car won't work in a truck. Though both are good they don't match. So lets sit back and let things pay off. Patience isn't a virtue with many Vol fans. Heres to making Candy an Lil USC our b*tches agin, keep beating Florida, and Buck Fama. Go Vols, have faith Butch is working with no AD basically, administration is a mess, and so on.

Fair enough, and I know some current commits have said they like Tennessee because it gives them a chance at the NFL and to earn a great education too. But I'd like to see some real championships and on-field success too. It just hurts to see where the program is right now and watch it struggle. I want somebody to come in and take charge and get us where we belong once again.

No mention of Martinez and Mahoney's replacements is very telling.

I think the coach's convention is this weekend. I bet they're encouraged to go to it and find other opportunities rather than get fired. Give it time.

As far as potential replacements, there's been plenty of talk about Fair or Barlow as DB coach. The only thing I remember reading about OL replacement was Walt Wells, a quality control guy currently on staff. Larry Scott has coached OL at previous stops as well.

Well since you like listening to the ass wipe sports journalists that keep harping on that, it matters to you. And since you keep bringing it up, that makes you an ass wipe to those of us who consider your talking heads that.

It isn't that Vols fans are sunshine pumpers or negas. It is more about whether or not you get led around by the John Adams, Clay Travis, and Cowherds ect ect.

Cmon man, just worry about what you think. We don't need to hear garbage we already heard from crap eating dogs.

I am with you! I don't know if CBJ is the answer or not. I am grateful that we are back in the national conversation again. NOW, we just need to average 10 win seasons and take shots AND get NC #7!!!

According to a member of Steve Stripling's family, he will be gone soon as well. The comment made was that Butch was a very hard person to work for.

How are we gonna here about their replacements as long as they are still here? These guys are gonna have to find other jobs on their own, or be fired, before anyone is named as their replacements.

voted worst fans for a reason.

the only ones laughing are vol fans.., well 98% are.

some of the comments on other sites from vol fans are just...wow.

no hot seat this year. ..don't mean it isn't very warm.

must show a good/great coached/disciplined team next season.
