Anybody Else Doubt Butch Now?

I know I'll take heat for this, but remember this post if you go 7-5 this year and get beat by double digits at Oregon, at Florida, and at Alabama.

Thats probably going to happen anyway Waco. I think finishing 7-5 and going to a bowl game is all any realistic Vol fan can expect this season.

It's not just what you do in the off-season, it boils down to the W's and the L's.

That's all that matters.

Now that you can't come in troll by telling us nice pick-up when we get a 3 star guy you need to find a new way...

Since when has a top recruiting class immediately translated into road wins at Florida, Bama and Oregon?

Are you serious dude haha?

Now... 2 years from now, I agree with your post.

But as for next season, if you think a bunch of 17 year old kids who have been on campus for a month and a half will go down and beat UF, Bama and Oregon, you're hilarious.

You are correct, but I would be very very happy if we go 7-5 this year. Actually it would be a great sign for the future of UT.

Well, gosh. I assumed because Jones is recruiting so well in March that would mean we go undefeated and win the NC next season. I never considered we might actually go 7-5. :nono:

Seriously, we may well get whipped badly in those games, especially at UF and at Oregon early. Jones will have a new QB and mostly new WRs, and a defense switching back to the 4-3. So we have to be realistic as fans. But there is little doubt in my mind the guy knows how to coach and how to win. He's proved it at 2 previous stops. And I don't care where those stops were. Spurrier, Saban, and Meyer all had to start somewhere before they came to the SEC. A winner is a winner. Now give Jones SEC talent at an SEC school and I expect he will produce a winner. But he has to make up a lot of ground and he won't make it up entirely in year one. Most Vol fans understand that altohugh obviously there will be a few homers who call for his head after the first loss.

I don't know how anyone can't see how big of a troll Waco is...he might be deceptive but it's not like he writes in hieroglyphs, it's sarcasm people. Wake up.

“I’m going to be beating down the doors of other recruits, letting them know the reasons why I committed, why Wharton and Kelly committed and why they should commit, too,” Hurd said. “I hope that my decision will help others see that Tennessee is going to be a team they will want to play for.”

Hurd believes that he’s going to a team that will be on the upswing very soon.

“I believe in the coaches and what they’re doing,” Hurd said. “Coach Jones wants to restore the tradition of excellence and he wants to win national championships. He wants to put the program at the top, and I can’t wait to play for him and for Tennessee. I’m proud to be able to call him my head coach and be a part of Tennessee’s uprising.”

I know this isn't his thread. But man reading stuff like this pumps me up!

The ability to win starts by building a system designed for it. Check.
The ability to win requires top players to run the system. This involves recruiting and developing, which also requires top coaching. Underway.
To actually win at a high level requires talent, commitment, focus, and belief in the system as well as each other. To be determined on the field.

There is nothing else Butch/staff can do at this point, but what they are doing. We will know soon enough if it is good enough. I do know this though - you will not win on the field unless you can win the recruiting battles and the battle for the players minds. Butch/staff are winning those battles at this point.

Hey Dipwad,

This is all about the future. This class won't even be here until next year.

I'd be shocked if we finished better than 6-6 this year. But that's more of an indictment on our last 3 coaches than our current coach.

Butch is doing about as good as we could hope for at this point and that's enough for me.

Landing Top recruits early is huge...pays dividends throughout the entire recruiting season. The perception of us on the rise has been established. Now, the question is, what can he do on the field with the current players we have with one of the hardest schedules in the nation?

The other question, can he recruit the big boys to make a difference on the D-Line and OL.

Going to be a fun year to follow...
