Any way to "Run through the T"

Was it early, mid 90's that a guy donated 1mil for him and his wife to run through the T?

Common misconception. Thunder Thornton and his wife donated over a million dollars as a leadership gift for what became the Thornton Student-Athlete Academic Center.

Well after they committed and donated the money, Coach Fulmer invited the Thorntons to run thru the T as a thanks for starting one of the most important things to benefit the football program in the 2000s.

So is Thunder's story a lie then? I've heard/read different accounts.

yes... i know you're going to laugh, but anyone know how you can get to run through the T with the team?

I recall a few years back the school auctioned packages that included pregame passes and running through the T... . but I havent seen anything like this recently and it's on my bucket list

Running through the T is something special...It's for players and coaches who PLAY for UT...Not for people sitting on their hands in the stands...It's something you EARN, Not something you pay for...It's a privilege

I've got a friend who is a manager and he has let my friends and I in to roam the sidelines for pregame and such, we stood right by the T as it opened, and I thought about running through it. I doubt I would have been even noticed. I will be back down there for the UF game, perhaps I will give it a go :)

I like your Rudy Rudiger you have got to earn it line. But the truth is....money will allow you to run the T.

No, it's not a lie, it's just a legend that's been overblown. The facts are, he gave a million dollars and he got to run thru the T. The story in between is what gets misconstrued by people.

Appreciate it. :hi:

And it was in 1999 wasn't it?

If you donated a good amount of money to the band, you could probably find a way to run through the T the day they practice the march to the stadium a couple weeks before the first game. The last few years they've ended the drill portion of that rehearsal day with Fight, Vols, Fight and Down the Field for boosters to experience that thrill.

A donation of $1,000 or more to the UT Band Scholarship Fund will get you a run through the "T" on the final Saturday of band camp. Plus, a luncheon after running through the "T" is provided to the donors. This year, the luncheon was up in the East Sky Box. It's money well spent and goes for a great cause.

The best way is to join a team that works trying to get new donors to give donations and buy season tickets. There are teams all over the state. The top team getting most dollars committed each year, gets to run through the T at a game.

I know several people that have done that... They have tried to get me on one of those teams for years but too much work for me. Not interested...

I knew it was possible, but since I don't know exactly what's necessary, I went vague. I recognized a few people who ran through a few weeks ago

Maybe UT should allow one fan per home game to run through the T, in exchange for an advance contribution, of $10,000 to the general scholarship fund at UT. Bound to be some takers for that, and the scholarship program would benefit immensely.

I've got a friend who had knew someone that worked the for local newspaer. He was able to get a press pass through that guy for one of thr cupcake games durimg the Manning years. He waited on the field near the tunnel until the players ran out, followed them through and nobody said anything to him.

Best way for you and I to ever run though the T with out suiting up and playing for the Vols, is to drawl one on the drive way and have the kids scream for you. :birgits_giggle:
