Any UT Vols fans in Anchorage, Alaska?

Hi All,

Long time listener, first time caller. Any Vols fans in Anchorage, Alaska? Open invite to watch the KY game at my place. You can watch on the same couch that hosted Dobbs to Jennings to beat Georgia!

I'll hang up and listen.

Doubt you'll find any Vols fans who respond HERE. But suggestion, try stating a Vols fan club yourself. This might be a good time to try, even if we don't make the playoffs, the buzz around the UT could attract some folks. It only takes a pebble tossed into the lake to create a ripple.

Tactics? Well, look, I'm an off the wall kind of guy. Try mounting a UT/Vols flag on your vehicle to provoke questions or conversation from people who see it.
Wear Vols gear for the same reason.
Play Rockytop on your car radio when parked and waiting at a store or somewhere.
Sing Rockytop while shopping, but not at the top of your lungs, to get attention, questions, and conversations.

Now, a word of caution. Be careful who you invent into your home. Alaska might be safer, but humans will always human. I wouldn't have your guts to invite total strangers into my home, VFL or not. A sports bar gathering would be safer.

Kind of surprised there is not an alumni association in Alaska

Can honestly say I have run into Vol fans/alumni in some way more exotic destinations than Alaska ha ha.

As someone else already said, just always be repping the Vols when you are out and about. Vol polo, Vol hat, etc.

My generic UT Power T hat that looks like it has survived a world war by this point is usually guaranteed to get me at least one Go Vols whenever I wear it. Generally speaking, those clad in orange aren't very shy about their fandom.

There has to be a minimum number of alumni in a geographic region before the university will recognize an alumni group. I don't remember the exact number, but I think it was something like a 1000 within a 50 mile radius.

For areas without a recognized chapter, individuals can volunteer to be a rep and there is an alumni rep in Anchorage

I found a vol fan swimming in the middle of the pacific ocean 2500 miles out alone and scooped him aboard. No idea how he got there but we had satellite for the game. He jumped back off at half time and said feels like 98 with a smile and a wink before drifting back off with a pack of dolphins.

Pretty sure you can find us anywhere.

I’m in Wasilla! We definitely have a handful of fans up here. We’re your “Arctic Vols!”
Wasilla! Visited there in 2022 & dined at Last Frontier Brewing Co. BEST bison burger ever! We at there twice. How many hours of daylight now? Go Vols!

I was in the oil business for years and had Ops in Alaska. I used to watch all things Vols when I was up there at Fletcher's at the Captain Cook Hotel.
Great food.

Flew in to Anchorage before flying out to a remote fishing lodge the next day (a few years ago). Before we got to our hotel I saw three people wearing UT apparel. It was awesome!

I had an orange hat with a power T years and years ago. The good ole canvas type. Wore it incessantly. "I saw you in town, could see the hat when you went by" was a common comment from friends. That thing got ragged. It would get washed on the top rack of dish washer. Wish I still had it. Haven't seen it in 15 years prob. My fav of all my UT hats. Though I don't wear a hat like I used to. Seemed most guys that wear one non-stop don't have much hair. Never could decide if the hair went before or after the constant hat wearing.

Bars on game nights. I would assume Alaska is much like the rest of America in fact in this case I would assume more so. On a good Saturday night there aren't a lot of options outside of being bashed by bears and mauled by Moose ( Meeses?) drinking has to be like a top 3 pass time there. Hang out on game nights and let folks know you live in a Moose free zone and they will flock to it. Let know you are making Muktuk fritters and the turnout will be massive.

I'm still convinced that was Cap'n Jack and it was two sea turtles...

I'll take your word fof that.

Meeses? You know, if English wasn't so mesh-mashed, your suggestion would make sense. It's the sory of mess you see with mouse with the plural being mice instead of mouses. Yet the plural, for house, is houses instead of hice. Worse yet, the plural for sheep is, sheep, instead of sheeps. I guess the excessive lingual borrowing has bankrupted the vocabulary.

I was 0% serious about any part of that post.. shoulda used blue font. the messes thing was purposefully put there for extra emphasis on the hyperbolic nature of my post. Well the bar part was serious

I know that. Here's the thing, I try to infect VN with a bit of offbeat humor. My efforts may entertain people who have a sense of humor, or be ignored, derided, even disdained by those who don't have a sense of humor. I freely admit, some things I find funny, some folks don't.

You are correct and I don't wear a hat nearly as often as I did when I was younger. My hairline is still as it was at 18 so that's not the problem

I believe part of the issue is that when we get a bit older we change our hair less often. I have had the same basic cut for longer than I remember. My hair basically just reverts to that form within like 10 minutes of showering or waking up. Far cry from my younger days with stray hairs going everywhere so a hat was worn more often due to the-ahem-"bad hair days".

On the rare occasion I do wear one, my old faded Adidas Power T is usually the choice though. Understated yet bold

Simple yet powerful.

Plus, whenever I venture the 20 miles or so South into Dallas I can wear it around and look like a bum so no body asks me for money. Brilliant !
