Any UT targets on this Maryville Team?

Be easier to take the ranking seriously if they got the coach right. I would say Prevo. Truth is at MHS, coaching has A LOT to do with the success. I think UNC is a better fit for Robinette. I could possibly see UT making a push for the tackle (can't remember his name right now), but with Nick Black as a coach there is a strong Clemson push there.

We won't sign any player from Maryville.

The last guy UT took from Maryville (when they were also a great team) was Tyler Maples. He couldn't even break the 2-deep at WR and transferred.

It's East TN HS football. C'mon maaaan. Randall Cobb and Devrin Young are exceptions not the rule.

Yeah..... and Harrison Smith... etc.....

But the only "big time" player I can think of in recent years is Randall Cobb. Brandon Warren had a big freshman season at FSU but then busted at UT. Sykes was terrible. Dustin Lindsay never amounted to much. Anthony Anderson, Josh Hawkins, Tyler Maples, Dennis Rogan (decent player).....there are just way more examples of busts and bench warmers from East TN than players who were impressive.

I just through Young out there because he's already signed. Cody Blanc will struggle to find PT in the secondary we are going to have for the next few years. He may see some PT on special teams and maybe his JR and SR season in a backup role.

There's still a possibility we recruit over him this year and he ends up somewhere else... JMO though. He's fast but I'm just not sold.

Yea i know, i was just saying. Im right there with you though. Im glad they are vols and hope they dominate, but im always extremely cautious of East Tennessee players, including DY.

I have yet to see Prevo this year, but his freshman year was damn impressive. If he keeps it up we'll be lucky to have him on our radar.

I understand the reluctance to accept an East Tennessee high school player as elite, but we also seem to remember the busts more than we remember the successes. Jason Witten, Corey Anderson, Dennis Rogan, Randall Cobb, Brandon Fanney, Gerald Riggs, Demonte Bolden, Carl Stewart, Cassen Jackson, Josh and Daniel Bullocks, and Aaron Douglas are all examples of East Tennessee players that panned out quite nicely in the last decade. These guys were just off the top of my head, so there are probably several more examples of pretty good BCS level players that I'm forgetting.

Gerald Riggs, but he was largely overrated. Still, he was serviceable as a RB. Demonte Bolden was also kind of overrated, but he was pretty good at DT for the Vols. If you really want to go way back, you could say Reggie White.

Besides Randal Cobb and Witten none were incredible players. Whats the year span of all those players too, I mean there is always going to be an amazing player to appear somewhere you never expect, Year in and year out, East Tennessee would be lucky to produce one bcs player. JMO

All of these players started at least one year at a major BCS school. That means they are pretty dang good at football. They may not have become legends of the game, but obviously that distinction is reserved for a precious few. The Bullocks are both in the NFL with Witten. And if you noticed, the year span was the past decade. Not exactly an irrelevant sample to feel the pulse of East Tennessee HS football.
