He just said P.C. will be leaving USC after this year... or apparently the Stanford head coach said it, he was just relaying the info...

The Furd coach harbaugh is an idiot. He said he heard this from a friend of one of pete's assistant coaches. So basically 3rd hand. Even if it's true it shows zero class to tell a reporter this.

There seems to be some chinks in the armor of USC, at least as far as the NCAA rulebook is concerned, the cook is the first one to run from the kitchen when the fire starts...that said, i doubt he'll leave

Here's the LA Times article:

USC does not play Stanford until October, but new Cardinal Coach Jim Harbaugh has already stoked flames with Pete Carroll, albeit inadvertently.

Earlier this week, Dennis Dodd of CBS SportsLine.com quoted Harbaugh as saying Carroll would be gone after next season.

"Perhaps the reason it's been up and down here [at Stanford] is that no one has stayed here 20 years," Harbaugh told Dodd. "… Charlie Weis is going to do that at Notre Dame. [Jim] Tressel at Ohio State. Pete's doing it. He's only got one more year, though. He'll be there one more year. That's what I've heard. I heard it inside the staff."

Reached by phone Thursday, Harbaugh said he was quoted accurately. Asked if his source was new USC receivers coach John Morton, who worked with Harbaugh at the University of San Diego, Harbaugh said no.

"I've heard it from multiple people secondhand, from people that have talked to people on the SC staff," Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh added that he was "simply stating what I heard from a lot of other people," and also said, "I don't claim to be the definitive source on what Pete Carroll is going to do."

Carroll, who interviewed with the Miami Dolphins in January but has said he would remain at USC, was miffed by Harbaugh's comments.

"If he's going to make statements like that, he ought to get his information right," Carroll said. "And if he has any questions about it he should call me."

He's just mad because he realizes at some point this year, USC will thump Stanford by about 50 points.

Pete would be a fool to leave a goldmine, he can stay at SC and win for as long as he wants

true, but he's an nfl guy first. he'll go back eventually. As much as he likes it he's not some guy who could be in college 25 years. If he wins another NC he will be gone IMO.

He was, at best, an average NFL coach. He is one of if not the top coach in college football, and he has a never-ending supply of top-notch talent that he can recruit. The only reason that he should ever even consider leaving college football to rejoin the NFL is if USC is slapped with a long probationary period due to massive NCAA violations. Unless that happens, he'd be an absolute fool to leave an incredibly high paying job where he could stay for the rest of his career for an NFL job where he will make a little more money per year, will have to deal with the prima donna attitudes of players in the NFL, and will end up getting canned in under 5 years.

I'm sure he didn't think he was an average NFL coach. Even if he goes to the NFL and flames out again, he get's the paycheck and will have his choice of college jobs after he gets fired. His comments after meeting with the dolphins owner shows he is at least considering it. edit: and I don't think he has the patience to deal with all the NCAA's crap and deal with overseing the day to day lives of his players. he just wants to coach. I could be wrong of course, but that is how I see it.

Come on, you cannot tell me you do not want to see USC drop 50 on them.

I live in LA and the furd are our rival, I root for as many injuries as possible when the two play. Kidding of course. . . kind of. I always root for SC to be unfeated by the time they play Cal. After they play Cal, I hope they don't win a game.

Harbaugh accomplished exactly what he intended. When was the last time Stanford football got national exposure in March?

Who would've thought that Jim Harbaugh was a semi-genius? Not only the exposure, but the impact of Cali recruits for SC and Stanford for the next couple of years. SC is the history vs. Stanford's academics and all around athletic department. Perfect shot because the reality is that Carroll will be gone when the right situation opens up to him in the NFL.

On paper, this is a dumb move for Harbaugh. The psycological part of it is deftly brilliant.

Kill the Trojans, and bask in the glory of Sparta.

Me. I've stated on here before that Harbaugh will have the Cardinal competitive in three years.
Missed that one from you. Knew he would be a good coach, but that the PR and psych capabilities might take a little longer. It would be nice to see Stanford grab a little prominence in football.

Harbaugh is an exceptionally bright guy. My guess is that his goal is to rebuild Stanford, then return to his alma mater.
