The Athlon preseason folks put Cal at #11. It blows my mind that Rutgers is #10. Louisville is #13 and W.Va will probably be a Top 5 team. Looks like another season of trying to sell us on a Big East team in the BCSCG. Incidentally, last year Athlon had Cal at #8 and UT #20 in its preseason poll, which was close to the Week 1 AP (Cal #9, UT #23) and USA (Cal #12, UT #23).

yeah there are some strange rankings. You guys flame Cal's schedule, but look at rutgers last year. Two hard games, both at home, and 9 cupcakes. And they have hawaii, georgia tech, and UCLA ranked higher than UT. Ridiculous.

I swear to God most CFB writers don't get it. Georgia Tech? They'll be lucky to win 4 conference games.

Look at rutgers 07 schedule:

2007 Schedule
A. 30 Buffalo
S. 7 Navy
S. 15 Norfolk State
S. 29 Maryland
O. 6 Cincinnati
O. 13 at Syracuse
O. 18 South Florida
O. 27 West Virginia
N. 3 at Connecticut
N. 9 at Army
N. 17 Pittsburgh
N. 29 at Louisville

Once again two games (MAYBE 3 if we are including south florida) the whole season they need to get up for. How is this any better than Boise State's schedule?

There are 5 games Rutgers needs to get up for.

From a win/loss perspective it would be nice if UT had that schedule. Then we could get killed in a BCS game.

So GT loses their starting QB, starting RB, and their All-America WR. And they're still ranked higher than us? I would love to get paid to write things like that.

just for giggles I thought I'd try and finish off their Top 10 then come back in a few days and see how I did.

10. Rutgers (easy one there :) )
9. Texas
8. Michigan
7. Florida
6. Oklahoma
5. USC
4. LSU
3. Virginia Tech
2. Wisconsin
1. West Virginia

Reggie Ball's departure is actually a big plus for them. Not THAT big, though.

Choice is back for sure. They will be stout on defense but I don't see Choice carrying the whole offense.

Like I said, Athlon had Cal and UT at almost the same rankings last year.

You should throw in Creer as well. I think he will get some good touches this year. He could be one of the top FR RBs this year even with all of our RBs. He may actually be the best all around RB we have.

In no way am i defending Rutger's schedule, but at least they have to get up for 2 games. Boise State's schedule is worse. North Sacremento State of the Blind has a tougher schedule.

Other than 2007, look at Georgia Tech's recruiting classes the past 5 years. What a joke.
