If JJP didn't or couldnt apply himself enough on his school work to make it here in a normal amount of time and he also didn't or couldn't apply himself enough to staying in relatively good shape I'm starting to wonder how much heart the kid has. How much does he want this? This is supposed to be a guy CJP can build around. I understand its nearly impossible to stay in "game shape" without being here through the summer but he dont look like he's in decent shape.

I hope I've jumped to conclusions.
Well, I'm wondering the same thing. Kids are kids.

You certainly did. But you're not alone. VN has fans who are regularly eager to browbeat our players for even so much as waking up 15 seconds late. You weren't in this young man's shoes but maybe I was. I always had trouble with math. To pass some courses, I all but lived in the cafeteria reserved space for tutors. I'd sneak off to public libraries to study away from the distractions of my fun-loving roommates and friends. On weekends while they were off to swimming holes, park parties, and the like, I closeted myself in my room to study. Otherwise, I'd never have gotten the "C" and rare "B+" allowing me to not just pass but graduate. Not everybody is a prodigy but some has enough sense to know the value of meeting requirements so you don't end up as some homeless guy on the street. So unless you've climbed out of a really deep sinkhole like this, lay off the guy. You don't know what he had to do to get cleared. I don't mean to personally attack you. I just get pissed at how too many of our fans get all judgmental of our players while not knowing "sheep" what they're talking about. JJP probably could have applied to some more lenient program. Or even cleared and bolted for a more successful program. He certainly was a coveted recruit. But he clawed his way to being cleared and still came to the UT. Maybe a THANK YOU instead of critcism is called for. Sorry for being pissed but I've been way down there myself.

Is the school allowed to send the player workout material to follow before he arrives on campus? One would think JJ would have at least been in good shape. Doesn’t sound like JJ did himself any favors with his relationship with the coaches. I assume CJP is pissed.

Yes. I played with guys who were given workout plans during the spring of their senior season to work on their body. It’s up to the student to do it with intensity.

So you read my post and reached the conclusion that I needed a talking to? I can't help it if alot of the fanbase is going off on this young man, that's what fanbases do. Their crazy! I wrote, or at least tried to write, a respectable post that wasn't calling him out but curious if any of you guys doubt how much he wanted this.

For every player that was in a similar place as you were, there are 80 that go through alot more from leaving their friends and family to escape gang violence and from being surrounded by drugs and bust their azz to get the grade and be in shape to show the world how much they want this. That they be worked their whole life for this and they won't be denied. Football is full of these young men. I was just curious if JJP is one of these or not.

No harm meant from me.

You’re good as far as I’m concerned. Valid POV.

I wouldn’t worry about JJ. There’s a lot of muscle under that baby fat. A few months eating right and working out will make a huge difference. At least he’s in school now.

Did people honestly believe JJP would be in the lineup this week or next? That is just delusional. Maybe by November if at all. Him showing up out of shape is no surprise at all to me.

Your shoulder doesn’t keep you from running or controlling your weight. I have faith the coaches will get him ready but sounds like some maturity is needed. I wish him the best.

We got to stop waiting for a savior to arrive and get better across the board. When everyone learns to block and tackle we will rise from the ashes.

Having had labrum repair, and rotator cuff repair surgery last year, I can tell you that no, no you can't run.

I'm in good physical shape, and I had my shoulder repaired by one of the best doctors in the country for that particular type of surgery, and I was still immobilized in a sling for 8 weeks barring showering, and PT. Even after the 8 weeks I still had another 6 weeks of PT before I was cleared to ease back into light activity and weight bearing exercises, and was't completely cleared for a full 6-months after the surgery.

Trust me, just trying to stabilize your shoulder when you cough or sneeze after that sort of repair is not only excruciatingly painful, but can also tear loose the bindings used in the repair if it occurs too soon after surgery.

Well...it isn't how your original post read. But your follow up is noticed, even appreciated. Although is seems to be, uh....

I said the exact same thing on the other board. I'm sure this train of thought isn't popular, but I have my doubts about JJ myself.

I wonder how much heart the kid has and how much he wants this. As stated in the 1st and 2nd post. Was curious what others thought.

Either way you nor I will answer that question. Only he will and I look forward to seeing the outcome.

My understanding he did the workouts. Per VolBraniac a while ago. Just because the kid looks like he isn't in shape doesn't mean he isn't. He probably isn't up to Pruitts standards because the guys who are playing went through months of rigorous conditioning with Fitz and honestly most guys cannot replicate that on their own.

He is by no means "out of shape" in that sense but to Pruitts standards he is out of shape.

Exactly. JJ Peterson is not the savior of Tennessee football

Thought he had his surgery way back in the early spring? not saying he should have shown up and been our strongest LB.

Great point, if only we had someone who could recruit 5 star hearts! /sarcasm

You did fine, Outlaw. And, you don't have a chip on your shoulder, too. I like that.

How much time should the staff spend on a kid who shows up physically unable to perform? If he arrived late (which he did) and out of shape (which he did) then you take him as he is and roll with it. It's the same to me as if he had shown up with a sprung knee from playing backyard basketball with a cousin. You turn him over to the medicos and S&C group and get on with your business.
