My car died. Am thinking about a Wrangler. My budget is up to about $8,000. What I'm finding on Autotrader are early 90's models with mileage ranging from 80k and way upward.

Any words of advice either positive or negative anyone can help me with would be appreciated. Also, any hints if possible.

tks

I've enjoyed my 09' rubicon now for close to two months. 3.8liter V6. 6 speed. 2 door. I plan on taking it down to the coast this weekend for a little sun, sand, and fun.

Im getting 18/22 mpg.

Did you go with the hard top? Whats your mpg like?
I got both tops...I haven't driven it enough to check the mileage yet. Taking it down to Port St Joe next month, so I should get an estimate.

Very nice. I have yet to strip down the back of the tri-top, but I have a feeling that'll happen this weekend. I've been meaning to upload some pics, but hadnt got around to it. Maybe I'll take advantage of the free time Saturday.

I believe that engine is pretty stout from a reliability perspective.

if it's the same 2.5l 4 that is the Slant 6 derivative, I agree. The little 94 Shadow ES that my son wrecked had 180K and it's 2.5 and it didn't leak or burn a drop of oil and ran almost like new.

I was referring to the 4.0L 6 cyl (inline I believe) that was used from the mid 90's through mid 2000s. It was in Wranglers and Cherokees - not sure about Grand Cherokees

I'm on my second Wrangler. First one was a 95, it was a lot of fun, but no A/C. Now I drive a 2000 with the inline 6. The engine is great! 120000 miles and I'm still on the original clutch. I really think it's the perfect city car and a lot of fun too!

Don't know if this is a concern of yours, but they used to get pretty poor gas mileage.
