Catan is a favorite for us. Lots of expansions and different versions
Catan is that game that you use to introduce people to tabletop gaming (was for me). Ive never been able to play the expansions. If you want an even more awesome game thats similiar, try Stone Age. Its our favorite!

How long does that take and how complicated? For family board games the attention span lasts maybe an hour/hour and half
The best feature is that when any player rolls, everyone has the chance to gain resourses. Cant remember how long it takes but not long.

I would say most games last about an hour. Really depends on how familiar you are and if everyone can stay focused. It seems complicated at first but after you have played a game it comes pretty easy. We play it drinking a lot so it's not something super serious.

Can't figure how to quote on phone, but just yesterday I had one game of Catan last 30 minutes. It's definitely a game that can leave you wanting more.

Its of the worker placement genre. The only thing that can be bad about Catan is if you're on numbers that never get rolled while others are stocking up. You feel stuck. Stone Age (and many games similar) you choose where to place your workers and how ever many you place on a resouce is how many dice you roll. Also, you score as you go AND at the end because there are cards you can buy that give points so the person appearing to be last can actually still win the game. So very balanced IMO. Its like $50 tho.

Gotcha. We just picked up two new games for Christmas that are fun.

Ticket to ride, very easy, decently fun, and can end very fast. Maybe not even 30 minutes

And Evolution, not easy, very fun, about 45mins our first game. Will go faster next time.

Got another one called Splendor, but haven't played.

If you like cards against humanity check out Joking Hazard. Similar principal (make people laugh) but with pictures not words. Much more raunchy than Cards against Humanity.

Never played axis and allies, is it similar to risk?
