Antone Davis Resignation Letter

Again, looking at the correspondence, the situation looks different.

What we have is an employee who, without specifics, said he was abused and mentions not getting an additional raise. We have a boss that gave him good reviews and even tried to get him a pay increase.

The employee finds a better job and decides to trash his boss on the way out.

A couple of supporting buddies doesn't change that.

What the hell are you smoking?

My source has repeatively told me that Butch would put on his high school band uniform and make Antone listen to him blow his flute. And yes he was playing Rocky Top. This would go on for 30 minutes and then Butch would ask "whose the biggest loser now"

Wasn't it Davis's job to baby sit the players and keep them walking the straight & narrow?

I guess John Kelly & Ignont (sp?) got him hollered at by CBJ? big baby

Wow, what a messed up situation and I truly feel for Antone. I'm sure we've all had horrible bosses and can relate. But there's more to this than what we're seeing. The timing of his resignation, the language used and the AD's immediate response to his allegations is all … problematic.

I'm an administrator and when I receive a document from a current employee with allegations anywhere near the ones made by Antone an investigation is immediate. An employee stating that a workplace climate of "constant intimidation, bullying and mental abuse" is serious, serious stuff.

I just don't understand the lack of an institutional response or even a public statement addressing the steps being taken to fully investigate and correct this problem. It all appears to point to an administration that doesn't take the allegations seriously, or just doesn't care about their employee.

Once Antone is no longer employed by the university, I hope he stomps Butch Jones azz into juice. You choose whatever flavor you like.

I'm curious, were a pro-Butch (team 1__, 63 Effort, Brick by Brick) person before...now?

Crap is hitting the fan. We want Jones gone just as bad as some people in the Administration. I doubt this will be the only things we hear before the season ends. Im heartbroken for our Kids. Currie should have fired Jones after the Georgia game before this got out of hand.

When BJ IS GONE you will be amazed at what your gonna hear

I think we need to fire Jones and Currie, the bosom buddies that they've become. Currie was an unpopular hire in the first place, and he has shown he doesn't have the testicular fortitude for this job. Currie could not have handled this any worse. If he had fired Bandboy after Georgia anihilated us, we could have attracted a serviceable coach. No coach in his right mind would take on this dysfunction now. We are going to be forced to hire another Dooley or worse, if that's even possible. I've tried to be patient, but I'm done. This is a train wreck that Currie allowed to happen. He needs to go. I hope ten thousand people show up for homecoming with brown paper bags and Butch Jones Sucks but John Currie Swallows t-shirts.
Maybe we could get the original Dooley back. You know, the real Dooley, not just any Dooley.

This letter must be false! Butch Jones is the finest family man, kindest, and most caring man that ever lived-just ask his supporters. I can't tell you how many times I've read posters (butch fan-boys) apologize for his poor coaching, but extol his virtues as a one-in- a- million-super duper, great guy.

I hate to see Antone go out like this.

This is a real character issue for him.

A boss gives you good reviews and tries to get you an additional raise and you trash him on the way out.

He has let others manipulate him. I hope he makes an apology.

This is an Antone issue.

I suppose it couldn't possibly be that BJ realized he had a situation on his hands, of his own making, and used the salary as de facto hush money.

Don’t know him personally but I have met him several times and I have a hard time believing someone who is 6+ feet tall 250lbs is physically and emotionally bullied by CBJ unless he is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. He is by no means physically intimidating. I realize he is in a position of authority but that only gets you so far eventually people will tune you out. I would say the stress of the job has gotten to CBJ and he can’t handle the pressure

One can bully and create a very hostile work environment without resulting to physical intimidation-it happens everyday, I'm sure you are aware of this. What ever the reason, or excuse is, there is no place at UT for this type of treatment of any human being. Or, any other part of the United States for that matter.

I am but in those situations it is usually the opposite sex and not in the coaching profession. I realize it happens to a lot of people in low wage low skill jobs who have no way out but it seems pretty unlikely in this situation especially when CBJ is on his way out. I hope it isn’t true and was just frustration on Davis’ part

Laid the smack on Butch Jones

"One of the worst work experiences I ever had"

Endured "Constant intimidation, bullying, and mental abuse" from Jones

"My biggest regret and fear is that I am leaving behind student-athletes and co-workers that may be subjected to the same treatment I have received"

Something needs to be done now

Seriously, if that is not reason to investigate what Butch has been doing and see if fire with cause, I do not know what is!

I am not just saying this because I want Butch gone, that is a very serious statement coming from a very reliable source. I truly believe him. At first I was fine with Butch finishing season (just wanted to know change was coming though), but now I want him gone now!

Sir, I hope your assessment is correct, in any case, it is sad something like this happened (or is happening) at UT, no one should be treated in this manner.

Yes but would Antoine whoo ?

I agree and am starting to get a bad feeling that Currie is going to be a huge disaster.

This definitely is a bad look for CBJ and the whole UT administration. If you look at the bold, however, there is clearly some things that were going on beneath the surface - and usually, that means $$$. No way am I believing that Davis left just because "CBJ is just a mean mean bad man and I dont like him talking all rough and stuff to me".

This is definitely possible. He got another job paying more than $69K, and threw out a torch while leaving, since he was turned down for a what he felt like was a deserving raise. Or, maybe he was on a performance improvement program...that's usually a good sign that exit is coming, and good time to start looking for a new job. Or, could have been a little of both...there could have been legitimacy to what Davis said. If he's leaving with an ax to grind, he's going to resign and have to talk to HR to sort out his final paycheck and turn in all his UT owned assets. To me, it's not a reach that he complained about Butch to HR on his exit interview, , and HR met w/ Currie, and had him reach out to try and smooth things over that he's "always welcome, and wish him the best", in order to avoid potential litigation or, at worst, flaming on social media.

Intimidated and bullied? Give me a freaking break. He made plenty of money in the NFL and shouldn't have "needed" the job. Not having to rely on the job to feed his family should have relieved him of a ton of stress. How many normal guys would put up with Jones bullying and intimidating them under those circumstances?

He got butt hurt when they wouldn't let him fly with the team to away games and has finally taken his ball and gone home.
