Answers to TN football problems

It kills me that people will go to bat for the guy making millions to mismanage a football program, but they will throw the players under the bus in a heartbeat. It's sickening. It happened with Dooley and it's happening with Butch. Top to bottom this is one of the best WR cores I've ever seen at Tennessee. If North, Pearson, and Malone were on the 07 squad we would have won the SEC. They're being criminally misused in this offense and it isn't just because of Josh Dobbs' shortcomings as a passer.

I might have agreed with you if you had said Jennings and Williams. Those two are the only deep threats we have had this year. North has been hurt, the slot isn't open for Pearson, and Malone has played soft. Not to mention Pig being out and Johnson being hurt. On paper this is the deepest WR corps in years, but that's not reality.

I'm going to post my opinion on our problems and the answers to them.

1. Our offense is not very good - the problem is poor passing, no top tier receivers, and a weak Oline
Solution - recruit better players

2. Our defense is not very good - lack of pass rush and poor against top running attacks and bad DBs....
Solution - recruit better players

3. Our special teams are really good but our place kicker is in a Slump....
Solution -recruit a better place kicker

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here Bc I really want to win these games that we lost. I do think some calls especially on defense and a few on offense were bad... The FL and OK games were such sissy calls on defense it was pitiful....
But were also a very overhyped team with very little depth and not nearly as much talent as folks believe....

I mean, most of our older players are average SEC players.....
But yet we are making them out to be all world...most of our best players and true freshmen or sophomores....

We just dont hv the talent and/ or experience yet in place and its going to take 2-3 more years minimum to lay this foundation down.

Next year is not our year.
It's going to be either 2017 or 2018 before we gun whip day aZz again.

You hv to recognize this and embrace this reality. If we Far Butch it only takes longer to get there. We don't hv the talent yet but Butch is good at recruiting.
The answer will be next year

This year we are a 7-5 squad...
Next year We shld be 8-4.....
In 2017 we will be 9-3 or 10-2.....
In 2018 we contend for the SEC.....

Right now we suck!

Accept it and embrace it and just know that we suck but suck less than 3 years ago!

Ummmm, no. You are the weakest link.

Goodbye

Curse started in 2008. Need to reverse the curse

1. fire Butch

2. rehire Phil

3. let him coach the entire season regardless of record

4. let him retire on his own terms

5. look for winning coach

Might as well. The 2008 didn't work out well. Heck, it worked for K State.

A 7-5 team. Daaaaaaang, I would take 7-5 right now and not look back!

You and most of the others on this board should have realized 7-5 was very likely before the season began. we were so far down on talent three years ago it wasn't even funny.
of course the coaching has been very lacking imo, but I suppose they were trying to cover up our lack of talent and experience in certain positions. I think we as fans would have been more forgiving if we had gone balls out in the games we lost. I guess the coaching idea was to keep it close and hope to win in the end. bad idea looking back. bit us in the a**.

That lack of talent had us up by 2td late in the 4th qtr twice!! Maybe stop running the hurry up and milk some clock. Maybe bring the house on UF's 4th & 13. Maybe?

To say we are too young to be 5-0 or 4-1 at this point of this season means you have not watched the games closely.

Case and point. After we lost to Florida a stat was put out by ESPN, Fox Sports and other sport shows. It stated that so far in 2015, in 191 games so far this year, teams up by 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter were 188-3. Two of the three losses were by the University of Tennessee!!

Having watched both of these games closely, it is quite apparent to me that these games were lost not by the effort of the Tennessee players but by stupid coaching decisions!!!!

1) In the Oklahoma game, we never adjusted our offense after Oklahoma made halftime adjustments.
2) In the Oklahoma game, after TKJr intercepts the ball at the Oklahoma 28 yard line, we call three of the stupidest plays on offense, lose yardage. Scoring opportunity wasted.
3)In the Florida game, time and game mismanagement cost the team an opportunity to get the ball closer so that Medley has a shorter try on the field goal as time expired.
4)In the Florida game, we run a prevent defense against a QB who is banged up on the previous play instead of a blitz. It was 4th and 13. Bring the house and make him beat you running for his life. Don't give him 6 seconds to find an open receiver and throw the ball. This one play alone cost us the game.

These are just 4 points that would make this team 4-1 this season. I love what Butch Jones and this staff does recruiting, but he must do a better job coaching in the games. This season is not the first time this problem has reared it's ugly head. He must address it or he will lose the confidence of the fan base.

To keep harping on how young this team is really is ridiculous. Kentucky is a very young team too. However, they are 4-1. I don't want any more excuses. Do the job you are paid to do, coach this team to become winners. If you cannot do that in three years, something is wrong.

2018?!?!?! If you think Butch gets/deserves until 2018 with the way things are going now you need to put down that orange glass of Kool-Aid and wake up.

Florida has a down cycle in it's recruiting, while we peak and yet we lose AT HOME IN OUR HOUSE to a first year coach? It's the coaching, chief. No where else to lay the blame.

Some of it is the OL...but who recruited them and who moved the team's biggest player, in Charles Mosley over to the OL, just to be a backup sitting on the bench? We could have taken full advantage of Mosley's size, against a huge Ark OL, by playing him next to McKenzie.

Instead, he's sitting on the bench where his size can do NOTHING to help the team, and we instead play undersized, average DT's. And yet we wonder just how Ark managed to run all over us?

It's pure physics. A 330lb OG is going to have a banner day against a short 280lb DT, every time. It's a coaching decision to leave the size you need, sitting on the bench.

I have to disagree. Malone can't catch north is clearly banged up and Pearson seems to have trouble getting any separation. Our wrs are overrated and Dobbs is not helping things.

Hard to get separation when you're catching the ball behind the line every other pass play.

I'm pretty sure Ut needs to go around and collect all the lost souls of volnation and then hand them over to Jeaus Christ himself and beg him to coach this football team. Then I'm pretty sure negavols would complain about him not being black hearted enough.

You do realize we should be 5-0 right now. We should have pistol whipped all three losses but we can't close. The talent is not the problem. The players aren't the problem. There were some severly blown schemes on both offense and defense that I'm hoping won't ever happen again.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda. BS, we are what we are and that is a 2-3 team. :eek:hmy:

Many of you neglect the first possession of the 2nd half in the OK game. We went something like 60 yards in 2 plays and then Pearson's 9 yard loss stalled the drive. Score there it's pretty much game over.

Dumbest thread ever. Why even play the game, let's just give the trophy to the no.1 recruiting class every year.

I hate threads bashing the players and letting the millionaire coaches off the hook. Bottom line, your program your responsibility.
