What is something that Butch brings to the table that would be hard to replace? Bad at hiring coaches, awful game management, can't get a potent offense on the field, and wilts when it matters. Even his recruiting, which was played up so much, was built off of in-state kids and legacy recruits. Kids we should be getting regardless.

This really isn't an overreaction based on one bad half. Our goal should be to win championships, and he has given plenty of evidence that we aren't going to get there with him. He has at least two more years here IMO, but I've seen nothing that leads me to believe there is going to be some unexplainable breakthrough.

Just needs to go, hiring Debord shows he's clueless. We will lose 3-4 games of the next 4.

If jones gets two more seasons after this one, that roster improvement we've seen will reverse something fierce.

Recruiting would drop off of a few years, transfers, new schemes, etc. etc. It would be another 3-4 years before we are competitive again but I guess what would matter at this point. We are now going to be "Coaching Turnover U".

He's a really good recruiter and knows how to sell UT. But he isn't a game day coach. Not trying to flame but give perspective from a different point of view.

He did do a good job of turning things around for us but the problem is he a good(not great) group of 5 coach. He will recruit decently and will get 8-9 wins a year but he is clueless against real teams. His other major problem is his unwillingness to let go of his basic, crappy O. Honestly you can learn everything about his O by reading "The spread option for dummies" book. There is nothing complex or intersting about, it is a very basic, bland, and easy to stop O the way it is being run by him and Debord. This isn't the 90's, this O is not going to shock or surprise anyone.

He has the best staff in America and..... resiliency. [Blue font]

Yep. Mediocre is fine with him. Hell, if I made a few mil a year at being mediocre, I'd be ok with that. Not a championship attitude but neither is his.

Oh, he'll make a lot more than "a few mil a year" for being a mediocre coach in the SEC. He's going to get a buyout that tops Fulmer and Dooley.

The really sad thing is that there's no reason for optimism regarding who the UTAD chooses for the next head coach.

Recruiting..that is it.

Recruiting hasnt even been great, most were the sons of former vols or just a few local tennessee kids....it was all about timing. We are already losing the great in-state players because they are seeing right through this staff. Now that all of the "legacies" are signed, he has nothing. All lower talent recruits and no ability to "coach them up". He has been riding hurds coat tails and now he is being exposed.

Butch has done an admirable job of building this program back but it has become apparent that he is not an elite caliber coach.. He is a solid coach and recruiter overall but he doesnt seem to be able to evolve or willing and as a result we struggle in big moments.. I am frustrated like the rest of VolNation but the reality is more coaching turnover is the last thing our beloved program needs.. If he would be willing to delegate more particularly offensively to an innovative coordinator (Not named Debord) he might could win big

You wanted an honest answer? Right now, I wish I had one. I have backed Butch from day 1, and what I am seeing today is just sad. I mean, Calloway gives us the damn ball on the goal line, and we can't move it two freakin yards?

Whoever was going to remind the team not to suck this week? I feel like Happy Gilmore asking his caddy, " Where were you on that one, D1p5h1t?"

Florida fired Zook immediately, great recruiter, horrible coach.
We will stick with Butch for 2 more years. That's why Florida has won 12 in a row.

I disagree. New coaches get an inherent advantage in recruiting just by virtue of being new. Happens all across the country. We've got enough good players to where we could easily improve in year 1. This isn't where Dooley had us, but we still are capable of much more.

I have zero faith in coach Butch Dooley. His recruiting has been touted as outstanding but I see precious little talent on the field. As far as championships go we can forget that as it will never happen under his watch. Florida is not a great football team but we are making them look like world beaters. Dobbs is not nor will ever be an SEC quality QB as he would have trouble throwing it in the river if he was standing in the boat. Our players have not been coached up in the least. The sad part is we can't afford to fire him so we will most likely be stuck with him for at least 2 more years of low level mediocrity.

I'm having fried gator for supper along with a big helping of crow for dessert. Don't think I've ever seen a better second half of football.
