Another Year, another bad decision at QB

I have a simple solution: don't wait for three years for a turd to suddenly morph into gold.

Boycott until the administration and power boosters realize they no longer have a cash cow regardless of how apathetically and cavalierly they approach running it, until they realize their cow might stop producing milk unless they start giving a damn for a change and do what other top programs do when they need a coach to get them out of bad times, i.e. spend the money to get a good one.

Or, better yet, not put their unconscionable sanctimony above the good of this cultural institution that is UT football, that means a lot to millions of people, that has one of the ten best traditions in college football, and instead of treating it like a Yugo they want to get a hundred more miles out of before they junk it, actually treat it like the Ferrari it once was, and could be again if they started giving a damn. We could have had Freeze or Kiffin either one for this hire, and it's indefensible and unconscionable that they hired this guy over either of those. If we had either of those coaches now, the best QB would be playing, we wouldn't have gotten 13 penalties today, and we sure as hell would not have run out of the shotgun on fourth-and-goal. Bailey sure as hell would not have turned the ball over three times; he also would not have missed all those WRs running wide open down the middle of the field. Translation, we would have won, and soundly, with a better coach today, as Freeze and Kiffin inarguably are. And we would be optimistic, rightfully so, for the first time in many years, because we would finally have a good coach and be headed in the right direction. But we don't, and we aren't.

Yeah we did a boycott and got Jeremy Pruitt so maybe the fanbase should put the pitchforks down and trust Danny White

We haven’t done anything close to a boycott. A real boycott would get their attention in a way that only lost money can.

The fan base literally prevented two coaches (Schiano and Doeren) from being hired and eventually got the AD fired. It’s as much of a coup as you can get. And it made it worse.

So far Milton's body of work has him under 50% completion. Further, he's thrown several deep throws, and technically he's 0-fer. And you want me to believe that never showed signs throughout fall practice? Hard to buy that....at all.

As an aside, hope he is okay, but Hyatt needs to figure out what it's going to take to make the big catch.....but that must not have showed up in practice either.

The problem isn’t Milton starting. If Milton is truly the best QB in summer practice and earned the job, then yeah it’s okay.

But we watched 5 quarters of Milton…we see Hooker come in without getting any first team reps and lead us to 24 points and that was with two turnovers and the defense struggling to get off the field (plus we got inside the five and got zero points).

It’s obvious Hooker is better than Milton. As long we don’t go back to Milton, then it’s fine.

Surely Hooker will get the nod against TTU. My concern is if Milton starts…he’s gonna look “glorious”…and then incoming - Florida.

Yeah, I remember thinking Bailey was outclassed by Shrout more often than not. I also remember Bailey completing passes underneath prevent defenses. Honestly, it blows my mind how many of you guys think you can evaluate a QB better than Heupel. Good grief. The dude was a high-level QB himself, and he coached several others - including a heisman. What does your resume look like?

Do you not think Heupel wants to win? He doesn't want to keep his job? He doesn't want the QB who gives us the best shot?

Give me a break.
Yeah, and cornbread “wanted to win” too… how’d that work out for him? Do you think he managed the qb room well??? Maybe, just maybe , fans can express their opinions on this site.
My opinion is CJH has in mind his prototype of qb to fit his scheme, but is not necessarily molding his scheme to fit his best talent. Neither Hooker Or Milton are dynamic enough runners to completely overshadow the accuracy of Bailey. We need to see HB in game time action this year, and I would argue soon

Have you watched Milton play the last two weeks? You know, the guy our infallible coach tabbed as the starter? How did he do with that decision? Do you think Saban would choose Milton out of our three QBs? What about Smart, who do you think he would choose? Who do you think Swinney would choose?

Here’s one for you: who do you think Freeze would choose? Who do you think Kiffin would choose?
Tell em

Actually Nick Saban went with Jalen Hurts for a year when a lot of people thought Tua was better. And also Saban started Cooper Bateman over Hurts. Dabo went with Kelly Bryant over Trevor Lawerence. Mullen went with Franks over Trask. Good coaches make the wrong decision at QB all the time. The key is when you see the game tells you different, then make the change.

He ended last season as the starter. Had all off-season to lead and earn the respect of his teammates.
And he is respecting the choice of his coach to be 3rd string. A third stringer is not going to be the leader of the team. It’s not his role. As an example see what happened to Milton when he was benched at Michigan last year

Heupel is clearly not putting his team in the best position to win. Hooker and Milton are not starting QBs. Bailey has incredible potential, but needs the experience and reps.

This cracks me up. The truth is exactly the opposite of what you just said. Bailey will play mop up duty this year and hopefully develop into a starter in the future. Only in the echo chamber of VN is Bailey a superstar.

Statement from a Michigan fan on Milton says it all. "He won the starting job here too and had all kinds of people raving about him. Then the games started and he couldn't complete a pass. So....I hope the best for him but I'll reserve judgement. He was given the opportunity here and didn't do anything with it."

And IMO i don't think he gets any better. He has had 2 yrs at Michigan and coaching here all summer and you think he is magically going to learn how to pass the deep ball? Or put touch on a Fade Route? Or NOT throw a 100 mph pass to an out route? No I don't think so! Coaches need to keep him off the field if they value their job!

Everyone is, of course, welcome to express their opinions. And in my humble "opinion", it's silly and cringey when random dudes on a forum imply they have a better eye for quarterback talent than someone as credentialed as Heupel. Not to mention... you've had a total of 8 quarters to evaluate Milton and Hooker, compared to hours, days, weeks the coaches spend with them.

But don't let me ruin your fun. By all means. Have at it.

P.S. My answer to your Pruitt question is probably one you won't like. The fact is, none of them were very good. Pruitt's biggest mismanagement of QB's happened in the offseason when he didn't go out and find new blood.

I’ve seen less than 8 quarters of Milton, but trust me that is enough to know he is the same qb he was at Michigan. Not good. Bailey has upside

Appreciate your dissertation but ….Arguing with random dudes on the internet is cringey…

How many practices have you been to coach? How many qb meetings have to sat in on? There’s a reason he made the decisions that he has to play certain people. I’m not positive, but I really don’t think he has to tell us why he chose the people that he’s chosen. I’ll tell you like I’ve told countless others. Send me your resume and I’ll get it to the athletic department so you can be the savior in Knoxville.

Such stupid reasoning. How did this same reasoning work out last year?

We don’t have great qbs. For crying out loud give the man a chance to recruit and find his guy. The two people that we’ve played are leftovers from other systems and obviously or highly rated HB is third string for a reason just like he was last year. You act like this is CJHs third year. It’s not. We’re 7-1/2 months in. Again, send me that resume coach and I’ll get it in the right hands.

1. What does any of that have to to with your stupid idea that is requires precious coaching experience to mount valid criticism?
2. CJH clearly made the wrong QB call already. That is a concerning problem.
