Hope it's not eastern Maryland. If so I am sorry for your purgatory, hope you imprisonment is not for life. ( too close to D.C.)One of the gifts my wife and I give ourselves is occasional house cleaning service. Last visit, one of the two women who normally come was sick, so the other brought her daughter - who was wearing Vols gear. She married a Volunteer, who happened to grow up in Paris, TN maybe 10 miles from where my dad grew up in Dresden. Small world.
edit - should have added, we're in Maryland.
It was nice chatting it up with a fellow Vols fan at Travis AFB today. There’s just a small group of us in the Bay Area that meet occasionally for the games but I’m sure there’s more out there.
Class of ‘04 & ‘15
A few years ago on a small island called Vieques off the coast of Puerto Rico my son and I went down to the waterfront to go on a dive trip with a local fisherman. We get there and the guy is wearing a Threadbare faded UT t-shirt. I was wearing my UT hat and hit it off but suffice it to say I was kindof surprised. Long story short there was a large naval base ( no longer there ) and he was friends with some Navys guys from Tenn. and loved college football. I left a couple of WAYYYYY to big UT shirts with him and took some more next couple of times I went back.
My Dad was one of those Navy guys from Tennessee back in the late-60s. I was a little kid and my earliest memories are from our days living in Puerto Rico. Just one of many duty stations in Dad's 24-year career.
We used to stay in quarters at the Navy base when visiting my brother in law who was stationed at Ramey Air Force base at the other end of Puerto Rico.
One night we went out in small fishermen boats to Phrorphorescent Bay, it was amazing to see the fish literally glow in the water and the water from the prop was glowing from phosphorus in the water..... pretty cool
I was at the Pelican Bar in Jamaica also except in October. I saw some vols gear and Tennessee license plates posted in the bar. We also ran into two couples at the resort wearing vols gear.Last summer I was in Jamaica with my girlfriend. We went to the south coast of Jamaica and there is a bar built probably a half mile to a mile off shore in the ocean on a sand bar. We were out there drinking on this super sketchy bar and ran across another vol fan. It was a cool place to bump into someone. I’m a student at UT now.

That is awesome! I have been in Bio bay in a Kayak and the pier I referenced was the sugar plantation pier in Esperanza. We usually go for 2 weeks and rent a house with an SUV and go explore all the old naval base beaches. It is all part of US Park service now. One old Navy base on the mainland PR is in Cieba which is where we get a 7 minute flight from to Vieques. It is of my favorite place to go in the Caribbean for fishing, diving, good seafood, local culture, chilling on a beach to yourself, etc... I hate what most of the islands have become St Thomas, Nassau, Aruba are all like going to Beverly hills anymore. We used to stay in quarters at the Navy base when visiting my brother in law who was stationed at Ramey Air Force base at the other end of Puerto Rico.

Me and my wife were on vacation in Alaska last August/September. While in Whittier I come across an guy with a power T cap. We exchange the appropriate greeting. You never know where you will see the Orange! In Washington state several years ago, wearing proudly my orange, I ran across a woman who was a great admirer of the Vols. They 'r everywhere; everywhere...

If there is a place to NOT retire to, it is Nashville. In the few years until you retire, Nashville will become even more an area much like you "enjoy" now. Forget the traffic and the influx of people, (over a 100 per day at this time) the avg. cost of a house is over $240,000 and rising (along with taxes). Very little that is "Nashville" as most of us more elderly folks know is changing. But this is not saying the Nashville area is not one of the best areas in the country (for young up and comers). Very likely the best in the country. But not so good for us older folks (kinda set in our ways) and not enjoying an annual increase in income that seems to be required to "enjoy" the Nashville area.Darnestown, close to Gaithersburg. Been in DC area for 35 years, can’t wait to retire and get somewhere else. Maybe Nashville.
